So, I'm car shopping. My beloved Corolla wagon was totaled in an accident a little over a year ago, and I've been driving a workhorse of a Geo Prizm ever since. She's a good little car, but lots of small things are starting to add up, and I'm hesitant to put money into a car I don't love (not a fan of sedans) when it has 290,000 miles on it.
I'm looking at Matrixes (Matrices?) and finding a lot of the Pontiac Vibe version as well. The sellers are claiming that it's essentially the same car, just like my Prizm compared to a Corolla, and I'm getting the same claims from internet research, but I don't know how much I trust that.
I had a Grand Am once, and it was a disaster. Broke down in new and exciting ways every time I took it out of town, crap for fuel economy, electrical system full of what I can only assume were malicious gremlins, plastic body that cracked if I looked at it wrong. I hated it with a passion, and when it developed an oil leak I traded it in on a Ford Escort and breathed a sigh of relief. I swore up and down afterward that I'd get a horse and buggy before I ever bought another Pontiac.
But here I am, looking at Pontiacs. For those of you who own the Vibe, is it really the same car? Does it measure up for reliability, fuel economy, and durability to the Matrix?
