Wow, is all I can say to putting the AEM filter on my K&N intake, it's freakin twice the size of the other filter too. I had to work it in there for about 30 minutes or so but got it to fit, it does look a little funny maybe because it's so big compared to the intake tube, but seriously I do think it made a NOTICEABLE difference. I swear. I know somw of you you are like there's no way swapping a filter would change anything, and it's a pysacalogical thing right. But I had my neighbor get in and didn't tell him anything about what I did, cause I wanted to see if there really was a change, cause I thought maybe it was psycological but he was suprised to after I told him. Anyway here are some pics, also put my TRD seat covers on also, good day

Part # 21-2099DK only 41.00, it's a DRY-FLOW no oil

The filter part # is stated above, it's 6" inlet, just like the K&N, but like 9"long

Well to me bigger is better in this case. Little more work to get in but more air to the engine. Noticed a nice difference:thumbup:

I think someone said that the inlet is the same as the K&N so did you still have to buy some tubing??? im not that mechanical savy so the easier mod would be in my best ineterst. I know it sounds simple but im a dumbass at simple mods.

Thanks!

No just buy this filter and stick it on that simple, you just have to work it in to place:thumbup:

very cool set up. i custom fit a K&N filter w/ heat shield to my corrado that looks very similar to your set up. how much louder than stock is it with the open air filter?

aLOT LOUDER THAN STOCK! Not obscene though sounds aggressively nice:thumbup:

I want one for really only one reason... To cover up the exhaust tick tick tick from 2100rpm to 3000rpm.

Did you have to reposition the shield? I got this filter but there's no way to make it fit!

MAD please elaborate.....cause i want to know the answer too

so youre saying that if you get the smaller AEM filter then you have to buy tubing/piping to connect it, BUT if you buy the big filter then you just have to take the K&N filter out and shove the AEM in.. riiight?????/

I'm trying to figure out how you could possibly make that filter work?

That AEM part has a 6" inlet diameter. Did you fit that over the K&N coupler piece? If you did, I would think it isn't very sturdy.

It also looks as though the 9 inch high element is way too big. Is it touching the fender wall? It looks that way in the picture. The intake vibrates as it takes in air, you must be getting noise from the rubbing as well. I'd make sure it's not wearing down the filter or your paint.

If you want the 9 inch element you could go with 21-2039DK which has a 3" inlet diameter which would probably fit inside the K&N coupler. Still wouldn't be very sturdy though. By sturdiness, I mean tendency to leak in and around where the pipe clamps are.

I have to agree with boone on this one. You might be doing more harm than good.

Thanks again boone for you help with this for mine. Did you check out the mod I also did with this setup? Also, I can still use my DryCharger Wrap from the K&N filter if needed.
I haven't tried the wrap on mine yet. Since nobody wants to buy it, I guess I'll keep it if it fits. :dunno:

I saw that mod, looks good. Still want to keep my stock box in tact for now.

tHE FILTER FITS NICE SNUG OVER THE COUPLER, very nice fit actually, fits exactly like the K&N, but yes it's a tight fit, not to tight to where the filter is bound up though, and the end of the filter is rubber anyway

I took the shield off to position the filter in, obviously it works I DID IT, the shield goes back in the same exact spot no repositioning, like i said it takes a little time, and patience but not hard by any means, but yeah if you get the smaller filter you'll have to buy some other tubing, oh and no noise either just do it you guys if your interested, it's been a great mod for me, or do whatever your comfortable with but i'm telling you it fits!

That's what I thought. You said it fits exactly like the K&N. Well the K&N goes inside the coupler, not over it. In the original setup, K&N used a rigid plastic adapter as the inner piece. I would advise that if anyone chooses to do it this way, they should seal that seam with RTV gasket sealant. You are probably letting a decent amount of micron sized particles through there. That rubber coupler isn't nearly strong enough to support something strapped on top of it.

I don't doubt it fits. I can see it does by the picture. I think you are just doing more harm than good by using that oversized filter. Looks good though, very inventive.

edit: I think I understand what you did now. Did you use the hard plastic adapter, not the coupler, that came with the K&N kit? The one that fits inside the K&N filter element? I can't believe that fits! Good work.
