OK, people. I wanted to start this thread as an ice breaker for most folks. Lately we been getting a large influx of new members to the board and I just wanted everyone, oldies and noobies, to try and get to know each other. No, I don't need to know your shoe size or when you go to the crapper everyday . I want everyone to feel welcomed to this forum and make it feel like your community where we can joke and also offer advice and knowledge to all members here without all the flaming and noob jokes we see on other boards. I hope we can get to know each other on a first name basis rather than just knowing each other by our user names. I'd like each of us to describe a bit about ourselves and how we got to this point. A paragraph or 2 should suffice or even a novel if you like, just a little something about yourself so others will feel at home. By no means is this mandatory, so it's up to each and every one of you to decide whether to participate or not. Once we have a few replies going, I'll sticky this at the top of this forum for all to see. Hope to see those replies pouring in!

Since I started this I guess I'll start it off. Ahem.... My name is Allen and I'm 39 years old (yes, I know, an old fart to most of you kids) and I'm a Taco-holic. Man, that felt good getting that out ! Anyhoo, I have a BA in Social Ecology, emphasis on human behavior from the Univ. of Calif., Irvine and a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree from UCLA. I now work as a news video editor at KCBS/KCAL-TV here in Los Angeles, Studio City to be exact, and have been doing so for the last 10 years or so. I've have a beautiful wife and a 2.5 year old boy running around here somewhere.

I've had my '99 Taco since I've driven off the $tealer's lot back in Sep. 1998. Some of my major mods are in my sig an pics can also be looked at by clicking on the link in my sig.

Sounds like a great idea, Humanoid!
I'm Brian, another old fart at 37. I skipped past college. Grew up on a farm, and 12 years of books was enough.
I've been working at Hewlett Packard in Idaho for 8 years this month. I've had my share of beautiful wives, but I must be a bear to live with, lol!
My son's 19, and has a Tacoma as well. When I got mine, he fell in love with it. Got him his own when he turned 18.
I've done a ton of cheap little mods to mine, but nothing extensive yet. My next upgrade is going to be suspension.
I just can't decide whether or not to lift it.

This is my first Toyota. I wish I would have tried them sooner! I've wasted money on all sorts of 4x4's, and I can honestly say, this one's the best I've had yet.

Old fart? I'm 51! I work a 28 day on & 28 day off rotation on an island off the west coast of Africa. Bought my 2002 prerunner 2 days before I left for this hitch, going home next week to get to know it. My first project will be installing my XM. Will be reading the post here & learning.

What I forgot to add is, when I'm home I now drive a 2002 Prerunner. When I'm at work in Africa I drive one that I wish I could buy in the states. All the trucks here are Toyota Hilux (Takoma), 4 door, 5 speed, 4X4, DIESELS. Awesome trucks!

I'm Aaron, I live in the Saint John, NB, the maritime provinces of Canada. I am 21 years old and I am a psychology major at the university of new brunswick. I work my ass off part time to pay for the upkeep and ownership of my truck (nothing out of the ordinary mind you). I Have also loved tacomas but never had the money to purchase one. I used to drive my fathers 01 Dakota which i ended up writing off drinking and driving. After that scenario went down and everything settled down i finally convinced him to buy a 2003 tacoma which he did. Soon i was allowed to ride in the passenger seat of it, and later on i was allowed to ride in the drivers seat (by law too :p). I knew that i had to have one of these tacomas after driving his as a casual driver i then bought my own in may of this year. I bought a 2000 tacoma 4x4 and I love it. I enjoy wheeling in it alot, its great for me because im really into hunting and fishing etc. I actually had a 790 pound moose in it last month and couldnt feel it :p.. hah. I will forever drive a tacoma... Next week im getting 31x10.5x15 procomp xterrain tires on with procomp chrome rims and soon after I'll level the front. That's it in a nutshell.

Hi, I'm Justin 35 from England. never completed College but did 2 years in UNCG music school. Moved here to US in 2003 was going nowhere
in England, Postman for a while, then Bus Driver now I end up living here again was a good move, got married nice American Honey and we have a 15 month old boy.

Work as parts and service manager/technician small engine repair shop, Stihl, Snapper dealership....

Hell I can't believe I now have a wife, house, kid and a damn Tacoma truck after not having jack a few years back - amazingly fixing lawnmowers n stuff has been paying the bills:thumbup:

Dig the Tacoma, kind of wish I had 4x4 but that's just my nature to want to keep wanting what I don't really need. (I keep thinking I can get some 4x4 mud flaps just to fool myself into thinking it is) Never go off road or haul. Had a snapper rear engine rider in the back which was no problem.... my next mod is an external tranny cooler then new shocks.

BTW Humanoid (or should I call you Allen) - I take a dump first thing in the morning and am about size 11 :D

Great to hear from you people! some really interesting stories (least interesting is mine)

I'm Mark, a 51 year-old working in the Information Technology department of major insurance company. I've been married 30 years this past August to the sweetest girl in the world. We have a 29 year-old son who is on his 11th year in the Navy, currently serving aboard the Robert G. Bradley out of Mayport, Florida.

This 2004 Xtracab 4X4 Tacoma is my first Toyota. It's a daily driver / general duty workhorse with some light towing. My old Chevy plow truck is about 3/4 dead, so the Taco may end up with a Sno-Way or Fischer plow this year or next.

The stock truck is working fantastically well for me, but I am thinking about a set of Alcan springs to better deal with the loads it sometimes has to carry. I'm not looking for lift, just better than oem springs.

OK, I'm 38, worked for OEM automotives all my life, mostly German companies.

Am here because my second car was a Toyota Corolla, since that time have had mainly VW GTI's, a Ford Mustang GT, more recently a Ford Ranger (still have) and now this lowly Toyota Tacoma.
I just clocked 25.8 mpg squeezing in the last drop at the filling station, them's real numbers and that's big in the pocket book. It's lowly but mighty in low maintenance, and if I I'm not a big fan of Japanese design, I have always had great respect for their engineering persistence, and their ability to bring the best little truck out there to the market.

Currently I work for a German OEM that does leather interiors, I manage a small logistics department in Mexico.

My name is Joel, 41, living in Virginia. I work for a railroad and wanted a truck that I could thrash about . . .

I should first tell you all of my first expiriance with Toyota pickup trucks. I was just a boy in San Jose, CA in 1979, riding my BMX bike with a friend at the local dirt mound. While riding, some guy and his girlfriend came driving up in a brand new white Toy. They started to throw some mud around and then stopped to ask us if we wanted to ride in the back. The two of us jumped in the bed and, needless to say, had sore butts by the time they stopped. We had a blast and both the truck and our clothing were completely covered in mud. I think my interest in "Toys" started that day.

Fast forward to 1985. I had just finished Basic Training and Tech School with the Military. My father had a 1984 Mazda B2000 that I purchased from him. I loved owning a little pickup and over the years, I have owned several to include another Mazda, Ranger, and a Nissan. I had always liked the Toyota but I just never got one for some reason.

Fast forward to July of this year. The two other cars my wife and I own were not suitable for the dirty climate the railroad has to offer. I wanted a beater that I could take to work daily, tow a trailer with a couple of small watercraft (Yamaha Superjets), and load the bed with various items of crap from time to time. I had searched on Craig's List, Auto Trader, Carmax, Ebay, and several other places for a few months. Although I wanted to give Toyota a go, it seemed that they were out of my budget of $5000. I ended up looking at a couple Ford Rangers in that price range but even those were not 4WD. One day, after work, I did my daily check on Craig's List and found an advertisement for a 1996 Tacoma 4X4 for $3900 that had been placed a couple of hours earlier. I called the guy and asked if it was still available. The guy said it was but he had a few calls already. I really didn't doubt him. After getting directions, I immediately grabbed ny checkbook and made my way to see the truck.
When I arrived, I saw a maroon truck that looked great from across the parking lot. The truck had 154,300 miles on it. It had the bed liner, tilt, cruise, AC, 5 speed, manual windows, manual hubs, new windshield, brakes, lug nuts, tires, plugs, wires and safety inspection. It needed a new set of shocks but everything else checked out great.
Once looking it over and test driving it, we settled on $3600. I feel like I got a fantastic deal.

I've since put a little over 3000 miles on the truck, added a Westin bed extender, Rancho 5000 shocks, wheel alignment, class 3 hitch, lubricated the drive line, washed it, waxed it and have fallen in love with this thing. I've hauled skis, trash, and gone camping with it. For the most part, I never drive any other vehicle. It wasn't supposed to be this way but it gets good gas mileage and I can use 87 octane, unlike anything else we own.

I'm getting ready to do a lot of work related travel over the next year and have decided to give this truck a go. I feel pretty confident that it will hold up. Let's cross our fingers!

Hi everyone nice to meet ya!
My name is AL I'm 43 and I have been a Tacoholic for years and don't plan to get sober from that for a long time!
I live in Oklahoma moved here from Las Vegas, its was like a time warp back 10 years.
I have always been a bit obsessive and take things a little too far. Excessive toys is a nick name a friend gave me long ago.
I used to have a VW bug that I rebuilt by myself and learned alot from it I realize 13 second bugs are pretty common now days but back in 1985 I was 18 and pretty proud of it. It got me my first mechanics job at Toyota. I spent 10 years wrenching on Toyota's earned a Toyota Master certification and also ASE Master.
A Brother in law (no longer I divorced SATAN) wanted to open a business so we financed it and after a couple of months he just disappeared for a while. I quit and did that for a while but businesses are not supposed to be non-profit. I am kind of jack-of-all-trades I learn how to do it and then just do it for a while.

My 03 pre-runner was my dream truck I actually wanted the 4 banger and I bought her new. Didn't want the auto-trans but thats pre-runners. I wax or polish it every 3 months like clockwork. Just so I have stated it my gf calls it "Fluffy" because if it comes down to thrashing it through the woods where it gonna come back seriously scratched I go and get her 2nd vehicle 94 f-150 4wd. Its scratched up already.

I have put a header and full custom exhaust. K&N cai, walbro190 fuel pump, web cams, xd-16 a/f guage and scanguage II. I have plans for a super charger, 440cc injectors, urd a/f and urd maf/map controller.
Once I get the engine where I want it I will add an arb locker and sway away all the way around as well as a couple of trans mods too.

WOW! Longer than I expected. sorry!:whatwhat:

My name is Greg and I live in Dayton, OH. I'm 49, and have been able to continue pursing guitar playing as a dead-serious hobby! I still don't know what I'll be when I grow up. Needless to say, all my gear fits in the bed, and a surprising amount can fit in the cab, but nothing will ever compare to my previous 84 Ford F-150. That was a vehicle I could have used an electric window to roll up the passenger side...

Got married at 45, have a wonderful house and property, and an immense respect for anyone who understands things mechanical. I love research and advice. I also appreciate a good forum and hope I can contribute some day, but for the foreseeable future I'm on the take.

Found a great Toyota mechanic who replaced my battery, brake pads, plugs, wiper arms, greased the drive shaft, checked the window motors and siliconed the runners, and other things, and I put on a set of Michelins and aimed the headlamps.

I washed and waxed, and I'm pretty happy right now!!

Sup to all the TN members...I'm Tim and I currently live in Nor Cal. Oroville CA to be exact. I went to California State University, Chico to get my degree in Chemistry but never finished. I got hired at a truck company in town that has been in business for over 30 years. I'm a Transportation Specialist aka Dispatcher for the company and have been here since 06/03. I like what I do but I really need to get back to college. I bought my 02 from the local dealer band new when I was 20. I just paid it off this Sept. Now...I can actually play with it. I used to play paintball but now since my truck is paid off I sold all my crap and started to mod my truck instead.

Hey, I'm Kyle, originally from Idaho, but living in Utah now. I'm 24 and about to finish up a degree in Russian with minors in Mid-East Studies and Business Mgmt from BYU. I drive a '95 Taco 2.7L 4x4 that I have had since 2004. I had an '81 pickup before that that is still running and used by my little brother! My wife is learning how to drive stick -- new clutch in my future? :)

Love my Taco, it gets me where I need to go and then some - my latest hobby is photography, and there are some great places here in Utah if you know where to go and have a rig that will get you there!

No mods other than bedliner, chrome bedrails, sound system, and my brand new Wild Country XTX Sport tires....

Hello from Aolteach

Hello everyone. My Name is Kevin (aolteach). I am 35 and live on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. I teach in a private computer college and also have a PC repair business.
I have been told I'm a little nuts about Toyota's. It all started with my 79 Short Box. Then off to the 89 Supra Turbo which is sitting in low 14's now. (I'm working on that) Then bought my wife a 92 Celica GT-S (nice handling quick car) After that she wanted a truck. So a 96 Tacoma SR5. Along the way came and went a 87 Landcruiser BJ70 with a Hino 3B 3.2Litre 4 cyl Diesel (a tank that would go almost anywhere) and a 87 Celica GT that I ended up selling at 360,000kms and still ran great. And a few others I bought and helped out friends with.
I am not a mechanic. I just know what has worked for me so far. But it seems that for the basic things I have way too many friends and family that want me to work on their vehicles for them. I really like to tinker with cars and learn. My Brother and I go 4X4ing and fishing quite a bit together here in paradise. He has a 89 Samurai that sits way up in the air. I end up pulling him out alot....lol.

I'll ante up

I'm 38, living in Northern Wisconsin. I have a BS in math, but have worked for the last 15 years as a computer programmer/dba/analyst/whatever. (It pays the bills.) I've been married for 13 years and we have an 8 year old son.

I'm a home remodeling frenzy these days (http://home.centurytel.net/gregs/FloorsandDoors.htm) but for fun I like to hunt (especially bowhunt) and am rather obsessed (so the wife says) with German cars. I'm trying to learn to speak German as well (Wenn Sie können mir helfen, sagen Sie mir bitte.)

Greetings everyone!

'bout time i found someone as young as i am, i thought i was the only legal minor on the site! my names, Kyle, im 17 years old and my favorite toy is a 1996 Tacoma. Good to see im not the only youngin' on here

Tough growin' up in "The Hamptons" in New York cuz everyone is a bunch of stuck up yuppies and there is really NOTHING for kids to do. (When my dad was a kid he could ride his dirt bike from Springs to Wainscott [15-20 miles] without every crossing a paved road, but these days, as soon as i start up my 400ex or find a new spot to put the Taco into 4WD, the cops start coming out of the woodwork). But soon im off to college to major in mechanical engineering and then out of this over-rated, land rover, mercedes-benz, BMW, and porsche crowded town that is packed to the gills with rich pricks who think that because they have a second home in "The Hamptons" they are locals. For now, I just stick to riding the beaches between labor day and memorial day...my Taco is just enough to keep me sane and TN has really helped me a lot!
