Pros

Excellent overall reliability

Outstanding fuel economy

It's comfortable

Cons

The suspension is way too soft. The car swashbuckles down the road.

The dash idiot lights and/or the switches that control them are flakey. Last year I was experiencing my parking brake light being on when the parking brake wasn't, and it would go on and off whenever it felt like it. Now it's back to operating normally. Now I have a flashing seatbelt light and it's on constantly.

The power window motor assemblies are abismal. Both of my driver's side windows won't operate properly. I would gladly trade my power windows for manual windows any day of the week!

Pros
small
looks like what a sedan SHOULD look like
easy on gas
maintainence is easy on the wallet
not overly quirky cars (read ford tauruses)
Cons
the 1st gen 1ZZ was HORRIBLY made
handles like a tank once the struts go out
overly dependent on sway bars (have an endlink or two go out and you'll get what i mean...)
hard to understand controls at first.
brake booster seems underpowered
one single tiny exhaust leak makes it sound like a freaking tank
leg room in front and back (i'm 6'1" my buddy's 6'3")
seats aren't comfortable for long drives.
DRUM BRAKES!!:headbang::headbang::headbang:

...
this is turning into 'rolla-bash. so don't get me wrong i love the 8th gen. i don't like the 4A-F or 7A-F and i don't like the ZZE120s. i love my 8th gen. i just think toyota should have put more thought into some aspects of it

I disagree with the 1st gen 98-99 1ZZFE being horribly made. It's the 00-02 1ZZFE's that are defective.(oil burning) I have over 130k on my non-vvti 1ZZFE and NO oil burning problems. It's all about maintenance.

Pros:
Easy on gas, light, peppy, compact, easy to parallel park, low maintenance, reliable if maintained, not a common tuner platform, has some TRD USA parts, suspension is fully compatible with the AE101, AE110, and AE111, never scrapes on anything even when lowered, not a Honda ;)

Cons:
FWD, no LSD, limp noodle suspension(needs aftermarket struts and sway bars to get good handling), mad understeer, no ABS, turning radius could be tighter, tight firewall to motor clearance, underpowered, 1ZZFE TRD supercharger doesn't fit due to hood clearance, hard to find parts, drum brakes(YES I AGREE), no matter how much you lower the car, it still looks too high :D

Pros: see above

Cons: see above, plus cup holders SUCK, cig lighter placement SUCKS, heck, the whole center console SUCKS, 3 speeds SUCK, heck VE feels like an economy rental.

 points:

I got ABS, nananananana :eek:hyeah:
So easy to work on (ie to take apart) I bought the shop manual
No fancy bezels required for any headunits, even 2dins
one stout little piggy, had endured 2 crashes, one manual swap, and countless bump starts afterwards
Stock Delco Freedom battery just don't want to die, even after 9.5 years (yeah, just part of being reliable)
Love the looks, gen 9 don't even come close :loove:

:thumbsdow points:

175/65/14 and 3 speed auto is a joke
Only VE with no power anything and no tach can get factory security system? ugot2bkiddinme
One H4 headlight does it all - maybe a plus depend on how you think
no cabin air filter
moonroof is hard to get

Pros: (98 CE version)
Reliable and not expensive to maintain.
Still looks good.
Smooth ride
Would buy this car again.

Cons:
Zero foot space in the back. Especially when wearing winter boots. On the driver side; pedals too close when using winter boots.
No true HID OEM or aftermarket headlamps.
Next to impossible to change shifter bulb.
Cupholder too small and directly covers the "ashtray".
No tint over the top of the windowshield.
Sun visors too small (especially when using it against the side window)
Flaky instrument lights - seatbeat and HVAC
What's with the one cup holder in the back???
Not enough horses
Not the quietest cabin
What's with the amount of spacing between the rear tire and the quarter panel. It makes it look like it's been lowered BUT the front end look completed out of synch.
Wish the plastic opening between the trunk and the back seat would have been bigger. Then I could carry bigger things inside my car/trunk.

If you think it is expensive to repair someone has ripped you off lanelocust. True HID Kit IS very easy to get. Goto the buy/sell thingy on the fourm. Modsexpress great company to work with, will design a just the hid kit, and they are awesome, they also have many options, and will work with you to fabricate projectors.

+1

Pros:
  • good gas mileage
  • pretty sporty look but not flashy
  • easy to maneuver around
  • doesn't require much maintenance
  • but it last forever if you treat it nice
  • everything simple and easy (even the under the hood to a certain degree)
  • auto headlight for lazy people like me :D
  • the stereo is not as good as some aftermarket ones, but very nice for a stock
Cons:
  • oil consumption in engines with high mileage
i agree with the other cons listed above, but those don't really bother me much. i don't smoke, so the cig lighter never gets pulled out. i drive the car myself most of the time, so the back seat is mostly for my backpacks or other stuffs, leg room and cup holder isn't necessary.

a thread back from the dead (ooh that was good ;)) pros good on gas, lightweight, easy to park, good turning circle. cons :note (i came from a ES300 this is my second car) no power on hills, engine isnt smooth, cant carry any kind of weight in the car at all or the tires rub like hell, lack of seat adjustment, unconfortable seats, drums in 98 on the LE mind you. yea thats about it.

Pros
Cheap to maintain when treated right
My engine feels reliable idk what y'all are complaining about
Trunk always fits things quite well
No one knows where the trunk hide is
Mine ain't burnin oil
Struts are easy to change
So tiny it'll fit through almost any gap
Has only ever gotten stuck mudding once
Easy to remove pass seat to fit basketballers in the back
Made in 'Murica
Can lay down the law against some of these huge trucks in texas (on a closed course of course :) )
Easy to learn stick on
Worth $800 more just because it's badged toyota
With fresh struts in the rear it has carried ~700lbs in the trunk and a back seat full of people without rubbing

Cons
Understeers on the gravel every morning
Can't grip the gravel in a straight line either
No abs on mine = slipping through an intersection backwards during the recent ice storm
I have to hold the shifter from the side when in gears 1-3-5 with route 44's in the cup holder
Fwd means I can't change the clutch myself
Mine never had a cigarette lighter light or ash tray light?
Exhaust is too quiet until you break it then too loud and annoying
Needs more bass in stock speakers
Door handles break
I have no memory of the rear cup holder not being broken
Trunk doesn't visibly pop open
5th gear isn't set high enough
dead cat holes in the front are way out of scale with rear
