Got the dreaded engine light with P0015 Exhaust camshaft Position Bank 1. So if I'm correct its the Exhaust camshaft position sensor near the firewall somewhere out of the 4 total sensors. Hope this works as I did a screen shot of where I think it's at. If you look at my attachment, I believe it's the one labeled #3. Is this accessible easily or will I have to remove the wiper and cowl, engine cover, and possibly intake?

Hoping this is the only thing I need to replace. BTW, pushing 173K miles and want to keep going.

Your diagrams help. Look at the attachments. I pointed out in red what is VVT exhaust sensor bank 1 and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly bank 1 exhaust side. Looks like it will be a tight fit to get to either one of them. Seen some videos of removing the wiper assembly and cowl to free up some room. Hope I don't have to remove the intake plenum to get to it. I also got a screen shot from top view of the engine in relation where the OCV and camshaft sensor are located.

So should I try to replace the sensor first and see what happens if I get any codes?

I may look into a plenum gasket incase I'm taking it off to get to the rear. I was quoted $265-285 for the sensor, so I'm going to attempt Saturday if my wife doesn't have any plans to attempt to start on checking the parts.

You can purchase the sensor at Rockauto dot com for less than $80 (Denso brand; supplier of the OEM part to Toyota), or less than $60 (Delphi brand). For a high-mileage vehicle not likely to go another 200K miles, I would choose the Delphi part.

You should use the search function on this forum to investigate how others have solved the P0015 problem, My recollection is that clogged valve timing oil inlet filters are more frequently the cause than camshaft sensors.

According to the parts web page referenced in an earlier post:

Cylinder bank1 (firewall side) requires 1 each part number 1533-00P020 and 1533-00P030.
Cylinder bank 2 (radiator side) requires 1 each part number 1533-00P020 and 1534-00P020.

I do not know which valve is for the intake and exhaust cam on each bank on the Highlander.

I can reply in a different language if that might improve clarity (I work for an multinational manufacturer of automotive parts).
