made the call to get the OEM bug guard today (thanks gary!) but stepping out on faith...i haven't seen a photo of an installed OEM guard (there was one thread but some of the members seemed to think that one was installed improperly).

does ANYONE in this great nation of ours (1) have an OEM bug guard installed on their '11 HL and more importantly (2) would be willing to take a couple of photos of it??? looking for a couple of photo angles to determine if it would indeed be a good fit/look. considered other aftermarket options, but there is precious little out there at the moment.

i have a metallic gray HL. the shield should be here sometime late next week.

tia!

ps...every internet photo search seems to bring me back to...wait for it...the same angled photo of the HL from the front. drives me nuts :headbang:

Can't help you right now as its too dark and i'm not next to the car. I'll try it by the end of the weekend unless someone else beats me to it.

A big THANK YOU for the photos. You may want to add a keyword to your photo post (bug guard, bug shield) so others can find it...right now you've got one of the few photos of one on the Net!

...and glad you were the one to send it...my HL is the same color, so i get a better feel for the actual look. i am also considering the avs aeroskin hood protector as an alternative...the oem is on the way to me as we speak...

Here are the pics of the bug guard, bug shield, hood deflector for the Highlander 2011. It's on a Highlander Limited Grey Metallic... sorry the colors are off (took it with an iphone 4).

The OEM is raised a bit more as it does not wrap around the hood like the 08 did. But i like it better... it's easier to wash the hood under the guard.

Purchased it from Gary, Parts Manager at Newnan Toyota. It has the Toyota engraving on the top right corner of it. So maybe you bought an aftermarket one?

You do realize that this is strictly for the 2011 and is different from the 2008-2010.

^ actually you're both right. :D both of you have oem bug guards for the 2011. and here's why...

j_c you are in canada! they have a different version than the us version.

i'm on the road but can post the pic when i get back to a desk. in the meantime, look @ jack63's photos for the canada version (which i happen to like)

I don't like the look on the 2011 either and was almost sure it was indeed installed wrong but it's not. It is just different. If you look at the toyota website, under accessories for HL, it looks exactly the same. So it is a meaningless argument. The 2011 bug sheild/guard looks like this. Don't get the OEM one if you don't like how it looks.

I have a Weathertech on my 2009, and when I bought, i thought it was going to be low profile like I have had on all my previous vehicles and like the 2011 Canadian version. I was disappointed when I installed and saw how far off the hood it was, but after a few weeks, it grew on me. But more importantly, I realized the advantage of being able to easily clean under it. Now, I don't think I would go back to the low profile deflector.

Other option is get the 3M clear shield that adheres directly to the surface.

ended up going with the OEM for now (thanks gary!) takes a little getting used to, but looks better than pictures so far. (wish toyota had brought it in just a tad closer to the hood, but points about easy cleaning are well-taken).
i considered avs as it is a direct fit but the tape-on-paint made me pause. i may yet still go that route. as it stands, not much in the way of shields for the '11 hood yet if you don't want OEM. the oem install allows me to change my mind and remove later w/o damaging the hood if an option i like more comes along

I went with the Weathertech also. When ordering I had the option of low drag or high drag. I went high for the same reason others have said. Being able to comfortably be able to get between the hood and protector for cleaning, without stressing the attachment points.

I have been looking closer at some of the pics. My WeatherTech deflector actually wraps under the hood. I can see on some of the versions that they use 'L' brackets to secure the deflector. It would seem that the 'L' brackets would be more likely to crack then the wrap around ones like I lucked out buying. At the time I had no idea that there were 2 ways of mounting it. I was just looking for ease of cleaning. Like I said I lucked out. Spreading the stress along the entire front edge would seem to be more durable.

I think we have the same one. Mine fits the same and I agree with your theory. That said, I had a combo unit on my Subaru outback...ie. a bit wrapped under, but there were also 4 metal brackets like the Cdn version shown in this thread. In 4.5 years of Cdn harsh winters, I never had a problem with cracking or failure. But, seeing the screws on the top of the deflector gets a bit annoying and eventually, the screws began corroding and the black paint flaking off. I also wasn't crazy about the fact that the brackets actually clipped on the edge of the hood, with a screw on the underside, even though the deflector came with a clear tape to prevent harm to the paint. Not sure if the HL model is the same.

Does the canadian version fit on the US model? I'm heading up to toronto in a couple of weeks and found a dealer that has what I hope is the canadian version in stock. I do like the lower profile, guess that's just what I am used to... Curious before I spend the extra $$$ (it's more than the Gary special LOL)

Thanks
