Missing Piece of Engine Undercarriage Shield

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 2020 Corolla LE and noticed that the engine’s undercarriage shield is missing a small section directly below the oil filter. I’m not sure if this was removed intentionally (maybe during service) or if it was never reinstalled.

For those with experience, what’s the best practice here? Should I get it replaced? I assume having the shield intact is better, especially in the salt belt area, to protect against rust and debris.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That sux, living in Ontario's salt zone, as painful as they are to remove during oil changes, I like having it there for salt splash protection of the engine bay...

Not sure where you are located, but I would check out local wreckers and get a used one from there, shouldn't cost much...

Common unless you do it yourself

They love to tell the next guy its missing and charge them to replace it with yours
Not necessarily... This cover is somewhat a pain to remove with rusted screws and low underbody clearance. Now I use a battery gun to remove, but first few changes with hand-tools were painful...

On some of my previous cars, if the shield was PITA to remove every oil change (large and covered the entire front subframe), I'd cut out a hole in it large enough to get the filter and drain plug out without removing the shield. This car's previous owner may have done the same and left the cover in the garage, or tossed it out altogether.

I've seen owners toss out, or not use many parts that come with car including floor mats, tonneau covers, headrests, etc.
