Is it easy to swap a balance shaft 2.2 liter camry engine into a mr2?

why would u want to do that for??...the 3sgte....given the right amount of money and in the hands of a capable tuner....can make tons of power.....there are numerous +400hp cars out there now.....any more power than that is just too much.....i'm making around 300rwhp.....n thats more then enough for the streets.....add some race fuel n turn up the boost at the track....n 12 secs here i come......all this out of my daily driver...i cant complain.....

Why the smoother engine?

I am used to very smooth engines in my previous cars. This is the first large displacement 4-cylinder I will own. I may soup up the engine a little but the stock power is fine for me. If the Porsche 944 engine was smoother I would probably own one. A smoother engine is what I want. Is the Camry balance shaft engine an easy swap? Thanks for your replies.

If you're looking for smooth, you should just buy a Camry or any other floaty-type sedan..

Can brother get a smooth engine?

I had a 90 vette convertible. The engine was smooth and torquey. The rest of the car sucked except for looks. I know I can't get a MR2 to be as smooth as my vette but a camry engine in a mr2 souped up with a little extra torque seams like it would be a fun drive and enjoyable as a daily driver. If you know if the swap would be easy or not please advise. If you want to ridicule my idea with sarcastic comments please don't. Thanks

Isn't the stock MR2 NA 5SFE motor smooth enough for you? After all, it is a Camry motor.

I'm not ridiculing you. What you're asking just doesn't make much sense since you want a sports car yet you want it smooth. You're looking at the wrong class of car. What you want is more of a GT type car like a Supra or 300ZX.
sports cars and smooth dont go together. ur ideals of this "smooth, comfy sports car" is an oxy moron.

and kev is right, the 5sfe indeed IS a camry motor...so what are u thinking of swapping in? a v6? :)

in anycase...get the 3sgte...a real motor! ;)

The old Camery engines were 2.2L 5S-FE's, but the newer ones have new engines, like my mom's 2003 Camery XLE has a 4cylender VVT-i that's making more power than my MR2, and drives smoother... so... i think the major obstical in the swap would be the money.. it's not going to be cheap, but i think it's a worthwhile project

the 5s motor (2.2 i4) can be swapped and is pretty inexpensive (300-600 depending on milage). There is a dude on celica.net who blew his engine on a 93 celica...and dropped in a 5s from a 98 camry...given the mulla he would have gone the 3s motor route...but due to limited $$...his total cost (engine purchase)+labor costed him close to 1000 bucks.....Not a bad idea if you want to go for a LOW milage engine...but this these are toyota's...you take care of them...and they will take care of you....so yeah, you can go and swap in another 5s from a camry....but if you want to wair...just go the 3s route...
