I have an odd but not unique problem form what I have read online.

Let me describe my problem. I have a 2019 Toyota Avalon Limited with navigation and the upgraded stereo. Most of the time it works great, and I have amazing sound.

However, every now and then it would just stop working. By stop working I mean I would get no sound form any of my speakers, but the stereo shows the music playing and, I am unable to adjust the volume.

In the past it would happen, and I could shut the car off and turn it back on it would not fix the problem. Usually, it would just start working again the next time I got in my car to drive it.

Unfortunately, this problem happened again, and it’s been several days, and it is still not working. The odd thing is I can change from radio to Bluetooth to XM and the volumes are all different, but none can be changed. You turn the nob or press the button on the stearin wheel and the volume doesn’t change. Attaching to car play makes no difference.

I am sure hoping someone may know a fix for this.

Thank you,

James

I had head unit issues on my2019 Limited, XM would not reconnect and fixing it required turning the unit/on off multiple times. The dealer scratched their head on this for a few months (and wasted service visits). Finally, they replaced under "goodwill". I hope you have a different outcome.

This is true, but this is a little different.

1) It is a known fact the audio systems in the 5G Avalons are a problem. It doesn’t matter if you have the basic system in the XLE or the JBL

2) There is no aftermarket head unit. It is integrated somehow with the climate controls and will cost around $1500-2000with a core.

3) Some have had success with replacing the amp, but a lot of these do not have amps under the seats.

4) I went to 5 independent audio shops in Southern California and none of them would touch it - see #2.

5) I got mine fixed as a courtesy even though it was outside the warranty. Almost guaranteed if you are having problems now, its only going to get worse.

6) Unfortunately, unless you find a independent shop willing to look at it, AND is willing to source it, this is best left to the dealer. Be educated, informed, be ready to elevate.

hello, I have a 2021 Avalon TRD with the 14 speaker system and I had the problem were I was driving and had to turn off the car to reset the system. Under the drivers seat, there is the amp that powers the whole system I took off the plastic shroud and was to access the wire connectors. I disconnected them and reseated both the connectors. Ever since I did that I have not encountered the problem with the sound system shutting off. In my case i believe that a previous owner Had installed a subwoofer with amp amp who ever did the install did not seat the connectors all the way in. Move drivers seat all the way forward, and pop out the 4 or 5 plastic tabs, and you will have access to the amp.
