I thought that the JBL system would have better sound on my new Camery XLE. As I tried to adjust the fade, from front to rear, was when I discovered that there is no sound coming from the rear. None at all. Grrrr, I need to make another appointment to take it to the dealer. I guess that they don’t prep the cars anymore before making the sale.

That sucks, definitly take it back in, but before wasting your time double check these first.

If you only using a 3.5mm cord with your car currently (some do that still) switch the car entune sytem to listen to the radio and see if the rear speakers work. If so then move your seat all the way foward or back and look at the amp to see if any wires came loose. If you still dont have rear speaker audio, take it in;The amp might be bad.

Well, it didn’t go well. The tech could not figure out why there is nothing coming out of any of the rear speakers. They put in a call to Toyota, and I just heard back today, that Toyota instructed them to pull the amp from another car and re-install it in mine. I’m a little worried. It has to be an amp from a JBL system, right? They can’t just pull one from a none JBL and try to make it work?

I bought my 2018 Camry XSE in November of 2017. A couple of weeks after I bought it I noticed there was no sound coming from the rear speakers and the subwoofer was rattling very bad. My car has the jbl premium with clarify. I have been in and out of the dealership since 2017 and its now 2019 and the problem still isn't fixed. the speakers have been replaced twice and right after they have been replace, a couple of days later they go back out again. I have taken my car to two dealerships because the dealership I bought my car from has horrible service(Johnson City Toyota) and on numerous of occasions told me they couldn't find a issue and that my speakers are working fine. I have had to take the service manager and other service advisors at Johnson City Toyota out to my car to prove to them nothing is coming out of my speakers. It got to the point where I had to file a lawsuit against Toyota because I shouldn't have go through this mess after buying a 40k car. It is April of 2019 and im still taking time off my job to take my car to the dealership and nothing is being done.

I am having the same issue with the rear speakers. I requested the upgrade for a 2018 Camry XSE 4 Cylinder with the JBL Sound system. I did not noticed I had a faulty speaker right away but weeks later I was doing a sound check and I realized there was no sound coming out of one of the speakers. I bought mine back in June 2018 and they have replaced 3 rear speakers (left or right) already. The technicians at the dealer did a full inspection on the sound system and they couldn't find anything Right now I have a 4th speaker that needs to be replaced. I made the appointment and they gave me the choice to either replace the speaker and wait until it stop working again or for the dealer to submit a ticket directly with the toyota so they can evaluate further. Apparently if there is a lot of people having the same issue they eventually will create a recall for those. I have not done any modifications to the sound system at all. In my personal opinion the JBL sounds Ok but for the extra charge and having to go back several times to the dealer to take care of the same issue the upgrade is not worth it. I would encourage everybody to do an inspection at least monthly in case you lose a speaker and dont realize it. It is better to take care of it while it is still under warranty.

Sorry to hear that you're still having a problem. After they replace my speakers it has worked, to a point. I still have to adjust the fade far to the rear to get a decent balance. I'm extremly disappointed in the quality of the sound from what is suposed to be a preimum system. I'm now having a problem with entunes. The apps are completely locked up. I'm pushing the service department to do the CarPlay update for me since the entunes isn't working.

I'm hoping they replace both the left and right, but most likely will only replace the left since currently the right side is working. There have been enough of these failures to a point where they should have put out a TSB or Recall on them. If not for the warranty, I would just install some after market speakers that would last and possibly sound better. My head unit was already replaced due to the echo issue when using BT Phone. The fun never ends...............

Listening to my Audio Plus system yesterday, it sounded somewhat off (XSE V6, 13K miles, one year old). Checked the F/R balance and sure enough, I am getting NOTHING from the rear speakers when I put the balance 100% Rear. Oddly enough, I am hearing some low range bass out of the FRONT speakers when I do that. My first thought is a blown amp/defective head unit, NOT the speakers or any speaker connection (it's not like I use the rear doors that often to shake loose a connection).

Appointment scheduled for next Saturday...service notes for rear speakers, rear deck rattle and ACP upgrade. Stay tuned....

I have the base non-JBL system. My rear speakers work, however I've played with the fader and the volume is really low compared to the fronts. I know this is at least partially due to them being installed low in the doors and the lack of a tweeter, but IMO they're still too quiet. I don't usually upgrade rear speakers in my cars but right now they are the weakest link, so I plan to swap those soon.

I beleive all Camrys suffer from the same issue both JBL and non-JBL. I have the base system and replaced all speakers and facing the same problem. The volume of the rear speakers is very low compared to the fronts and when I set the fade to rear only I get no sound at all. So, dont waste your time and replace the rear speakers. I think the problem is with the HU,and toyota should come up with a solution either a software update or replace the headunit

I just ran across this discussion. I have the JBL system in my RAV4 Limited 2019. I just noticed the other day there is no sound coming from the rear speakers! Just like posters here note for the Camry. When the fader is set to full rear, I get a very bassy sound from the front speakers (I think). Setup for service visit tomorrow. BTW I know it worked previously, as I set it and it worked fine. I had been aware that the sound was not what I prefer lately...so I fiddled with the fader and noticed the dead rear speakers. I hope they fix it.

Did any one get satisfaction with this defect?

Thanks

Most automakers are developing that so-called front 'sound stage' in their vehicles. The sound stage means back speakers are attenuated, and tuned to push the soundstage on the dash.

I prefer to be able to fade to back to allow the adults up front to have a conversation without the kiddies hearing any of it.

Also seems that many are 'blowing' the cheap speakers. Either Toyota picked some different suppliers, or nickeled n dime'd them to death. Quality is suffering.

I've have blowned several JBL amps over the years.. Luckily most failed under warranty and local dealer replaced. The speakers do dry rot after several years and I just replace them with aftermarket speakers. Eventually ever Toyota that I've owned ends up with aftermarket amps, speakers, headunits....

Exercise the warranty and maybe you'll get the OE junk to last longer. Or, invest in your own speakers/amps/dsp/HU...

You can have your Model-T in any color that you want as long as its black. You can have your sound anyway you want as long as it fits the OE marketing consensus for output and soundstage. Enjoy your communist stereo system. Its good.

It took 4-5 trips to the dealer, and 2 calls to Toyota. They finally pulled an amp out of another new Camry, and determined that mine was bad. They wouldn’t just leave that amp in my car and order anew one for the other car. I had to wait 2-weeks before they got one in. After that I haven’t had a problem.
