NSX vs Mothers

I was shopping for some car wax and ended up debating between the Mequiar's NSX and Mother's carnuba. Ended up with the Mothers which did a pretty good job. Has anyone tried a test between these two? I am looking only for something below $20. I know there are a lot of better waxes at $50+. I noticed the NSX is synthetic so decided on the carnuba.

I have always used the Meguiar's 3 Step (Cleaner, Polish, Wax) and have great results! Meguiar's has never done me wrong, but I have heard of alot of people using the Mother's products. On your next go around you should try the Meguiar's products and see if there is a noticeable difference. :)

I can't find the page that I saw a month or so ago. It compared a bunch of different waxes.

I've been using Meguiar's Yellow Wax #26 the past few times. For $14, I like it. I don't think it lasts all that long but I usually throw a coat of wax on every two weeks anyway. I think I'm gonna go with P21S when my yellow wax runs out but that's above the $20 you are talking about.

I have Klasse on there for protection. I apply that 3 or 4 times a year. I just use a carnauba to shine it up.

(Do you mean NXT? I don't know of any NSX, except for Zymol NSX wax or glaze).

The carnauba will look better on dark colored paintes. It has more depth and detail.

If your truck is silver or white or tan I would use the Meguiars NXT. It is pretty glossy and will last longer than carnauba.

Sometimes I will custom mix waxes together to get the benifits of both. But not all waxes will mix.

I like to mix P21S carnauba paste with liquid NanoWax.

NorCal...where do you get P21s from? I've never heard of it before. Is it pricey?
P21s is top notch. It is highly regarded in the detailing community. Standard people have no clue about it. I had no clue about it until I started looking at forums and talking to PB and that's when I started buying Klasse and P21s.

It is pricey. The little container of P21s Carnauba wax is about $35.

I ended up finding a deal and a half on P21s and Klasse.

I went to Amazon.com and searched P21s and they had a P21s Car Care Kit for about $60 it includes the wax and other products they make, all in a nice case for storage!

I also ordered my Klasse Kit from Amazon.com too. It was $50 and includes the AIO and SG with a microfiber towel and some applicators all in a nice box as well!

I just bought a Mothers Clay Bar from PepBoys that PB2theMax reccomended! I can't wait to use it!

I just put a layer of NXT on my silver 04 Taco with a Porter Cable 7424. I generally use P21s and that works incredible and is very easy to use, but I will say the NXT gave the paint a little more depth, but a little less shine (if that makes sense). So I hit it with a layer of P21s by hand and now it shines and has more depth. I was surprised it mixed so well. I will definately use NXT again.

On a side note, if you just wash and wax you will really be missing out on a lot esp if you have a dark colored vehicle. Its good to polish and clay your vehicle. And if you don't have any pick up some Klasse AIO and Klasse glaze, they work awesome and really help protect your paint, literally. I "tapped" the side of my garage one night with my truck on the passenger side fender flare (painted to match my truck) and the paint was unaffected, luckily it was just a slight tap but the layers of wax and Klasse helped out.

PBMax, I know a couple people that have picked up orbital polishers for about $40.00 and they say they are happy with them. Is the PC really worth the extra coin or would I be ok with a lesser expensive one...?

Tnx

^^^^^^^^^I can't speak with too much experience (just got my PC) but I will say it seems to be the best buffer I've ever seen. Very well made, and it's orbital path (sound like a planet but I don't know how to word it, lol) is longer than other buffers I tried out. Also the aftermarket supplies are endless. My .02$'s

I used both and ended up using Mothers products because of the price difference. I couldn't really notice the difference between Meqular's and Mothers. I really like the Instant Detailar after putting a couple of coats of Mothers pure carnauba wax. Mother's products I used so far on my cars:

Showtime instant Detailer
Cleaner wax
Pure carnauba wax
Reflections Instant wax
Clay Bar
Back to Black
I use the instant Detailer on my windows also and my rims.

What the Viper Nation uses

Just want to chime in on the "wax" debate. My Viper GTS, and almost every Viper owner I know, use a product from Zaino Brothers. available on line. I have tried about all the $30 and above stuff, as have most of you, as evidenced by the large supply of various left over cans and bottles in my garage. Nothing else I have tried can match the depth of gloss and ease of application of Zainos. I also begin by "claying" the paint before applying . This stuff is magic and is affordable. Check it out on their website. No, I don't own their stock!

I used to think the same thing, until I bought a PC 7424.

Those $40 buffers are usually only good for waxing, IMO. For polishing and removing scratches you need more power, control, and smaller pads. I never use bigger than a 6" pad. For removing scratches I use a 4" pad.

And the pads you use are just as important as the buffer. There are different firmness' of pads, for different uses.

IMO, it's worth the money. On http://www.autopia-carcare.com/pc-7424.html they had a sweet deal a few weeks ago on a kit that included the PC, pads, backing plate, and some polish.

If you search their forums you can also find some discount codes like free shipping. They have fast shipping, packing, and customer service. They give you a phone # to talk to the store owner (David Bynon) directly if you have a problem.

Zaino > all.
Zaino is good stuff. But it's a lot more expensive and time consuming. Plan on spending a few days if you want to do all the steps correctly.

But on the same note, Klasse requires 24 hours of curing time between coats, if you want to do it right. Adding a second coat prematurely will just remove the first coat, instead of layering a coat on top of it.

Hey man what do you mean by mixing? Do you mean actually mixing them together then applying or just layering them? I put a coat of gold class, wiped clean and followed with nxt generation with pretty good results the last time I waxed.

Yeah ^. To really finish off a good wax job, I spritz some carnauba based spray detailer on the paint and wipe it around evenly. It adds a little moisture and even more gloss. Then I finish it off with a super soft buffing bonnet on medium speed to blend any deep spots together. On dark colors you can sometimes see deep spots where the paint looks a little darker under alot of lights and inspection. This is usually from not applying the wax evenly; too thick in a certain area.

Yeah, I actually mix them together. I will rub a glob of carnauba paste on the pad, and then add a squirt of NanoWax on top of it, and then just go for it.

You can also mix carnaubas together by melting. This is the real way to mix wax. Just scoop them out of their tubs and put them in a pot together and heat it up on medium heat, stir it, and then pour it into a containter. It melts into a liquid and then dries just like candle wax.
