Hello folks,

I took the Camry in for an oil change this morning and it went well except that the tech let me know that the oil light wasn't coming on and I realized then that I have not seen it since I inherited it from gram. Doesn't illuminate when I start the car or anything. If im correct (and please correct me if not) but shouldn't it show once the ignition hits the on position? So basically im wondering about the simplicity of the repair....but theres more and im wondering if this is the cause.....read on.....

But I also recently did my alternator and whilst completing the swap, I discovered two electrical connectors dangling and they look like they are coming off of a main harness. I haven't had any check engine lights come on or anything since I have had it (August, '12) and I did a tune up and everything and although I suspect she is using a small amount of oil, runs very smoothly at 158k. I have attached images of what I have found so that you can see what is hanging out. Any feedback is appreciated. 92 Camry V6 LE. 3VZ-FE.

Evening update: At the time I was posting, I realized I could not upload photos from my pc, and that I needed a URL location for my pics. But I had to go to work and couldn't do it at the time. I have gotten the pics on photobucket and have uploaded them for your viewing pleasure. Any help is greatly appreciated....I also apologize in advance....one of the pics is a little blurry but the wind was really kicking up while I was taking them but It was the only time I had the daylight to take them (my schedule is hectic)

We'll wait for the picture. It sounds like one of the disconnected wires is supposed to be on your oil pressure switch. If your oil pressure switch is disconnected, your oil pressure warning light in your instrument cluster will never light up (not a good thing).

Could it be just a burnt out bulb?... Would the oil pressure switch being disconnected (if that's what it is) keep it from lighting up the bulb with the key turned to the "ON" position?... but not starting the engine.

I had to think about this question a bit. Then I went out to my winter stored 93 Celica convertible's 5S-FE to test. Wire connected, turn ignition key to ON, oil pressure warning light comes on. Disconnect the wire to the oil pressure switch, turn key to ON, no oil pressure warning light.

Now the situation makes sense. Oil pressure light comes on only when the wire to the oil pressure switch is grounded. The oil pressure switch contacts are together with no oil pressure (as would be the case when you first try to start the engine). The oil pressure switch contacts open when sufficient oil pressure exists, and the oil pressure warning light goes out. With the wire disconnected, it is not grounded, so the oil pressure warning light cannot turn on.

So a disconnected oil pressure switch wire would mean the oil pressure warning light will never illuminate.

In the meantime, your information so far has been most helpful. Im gonna take a gander at the shop manual and look at the oil pressure switch and its connector and see what ive got......these clues are helping me out bigtime.
