How can I fix the P0741 engine code?

Vehicle has 100k mileage.

Some of the on and off symptoms: loss of power, doesn't go over 40mph on the bridge, rpm dramatically goes high at low speed, lower mpg.

I did a tune-up; spark plugs, engine, coolant, transmission fluid, steering, ignition coils, short ram intake filter cleaned.

Please ask me questions that relevant to my car so I can possibly fix it once and for all. I had it for 3 years!

Not a Camry owner yet, but I had this same issue with my little '01 Altima last year after driving it thru the mountains of VA on a trip to/from a family reunion. I think the thinner air worked my car a little too much, had to keep it at 4k RPM's minimum for a couple hours just to keep the car at the speed limit. Right before I got home, the CEL came on; I suspect the way I had to rev the car is what blew my TCC Solenoid valve.

I had to go to the dealer to get a replacement solenoid valve and it cost me a little under $900 :-( Unfortunately, the RPM's still take a second or two to drop after the tranny shifts and sometimes the car revs high until the tranny shifts in lower speed. You might want to take it to a reputable shop and see if they have a better diagnosis. Hopefully you don't have the issue I had.

I have the same code p0741 on my camry '04 and it has been bugging me. Changed transmission fluid and even the ones in the torque converter was drained in the hope that it was just a dirty trans fluid but still the same code. My car drives smoothly but I hate to see the check light be aisle I might not know when something else will be wrong. I guess it ll all go down to changing the solenoid. Please help

I went to a toyota mechanic and he said that it'll cost $3800 more or less for a new transmission. I was like gtfo... (in my mind). So, I went to small auto shops around New York City since there are many. One guy said $1600 for the fix. I forgo to ask if its a new transmission or a rebuilt but I will go back and ask him next week.

My 2nd plan was to buy a automatic transmission from eBay for around $300 and then have them install it by paying for the labor only which is around $550.

Gosh what to do, what to do...
