Not really looking for help, just looking to document for self, possibly help others.

Resources:

This video is SUPER helpful with troubleshooting parasitic draw if you are not really sure where to start:

Who makes the best battery?:

Car and deep cycle battery FAQ (old, but good general info): Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ, Battery Manufacturers and Brand Names List, and Battery References and Information Links List

Toyota Factory Service Manuals: https://techinfo.toyota.com

Car: 2003 Matrix

Symptoms: Battery went dead overnight. Had to jump-start in the morning.

Troubleshooting:

-Turned off everything on car, closed all doors. Using DMM (see video, link above), determined that there was 163mv of drop (should be no more than 50mv). Pulled and replaced underhood fuses until I found the one that stopped the voltage drop. This turned out to be the "DOM LIT" circuit. This also runs door unlock/lock via remote fob, radio, "you left your lights on" warning tone, rearview mirror lights, who knows what else.

Misc.:

Battery was too abused from deep cycling to hold a charge and I replaced it with an Everstart Maxx group size 35 from Walmart. Draw is stopped but the key fob, radio, and dome light still aren't working and I've got to troubleshoot into this circuit further. I assume I'll have to hit up the FSM for wiring diagrams and start crawling around with the DMM. Ugh.

I have the same problem on Toyota Tundra, just started 2 weeks ago. Bought new battery to replace "dead" battery. New battery was drained in a matter of days. had battery tested and re-charged. Then did trouble shooting and found with everything "off" the battery drain was almost 1 Amp. Pulled fuses, found that if I removed the dome light, the draw was back down to "very low" to keep truck's smart stuff running, don't remember the exact amp draw but just under 1A. I have read many proposed solutions, but none make sense. The draw is from the DOME LIGHT circuit. The fuse is 7.5 amp. I am just leaving it out, since I don't often use the truck at night... What is up with this failure??? Somebody who knows correct answer, please post. No speculation. Thanks, Michael Roland mbroland@yahoo.com

If you have a sunroof, the rheostat switch needs to be checked. The thumbwheel will switch on and off, but sometimes will not cut power to the dome light.

Check the ground in the dome light. The ground fastener is screwed into the plastic housing. Modification to relocate the ground to chassis is needed.

Edit : the rheostat switch also controls the back light for the cluster. The draw may be leaking from that circuit as well.
