So I bought the Pedal Commander Throttle Controller. Cost a pretty penny, $300. I will update this post as I drive it more as the first day won't tell much. Super easy to install, no cutting of any wires. When you order it you give them your vehicle information and it comes with the correct plugs for the throttle pedal. First impressions of it are pretty good. You can most definitely tell the difference when touching the pedal, instantly gets more sensitive. There are 4 modes: Eco, City, Sport, Sport + and each mode you can adjust the sensitivity up 4 or down 4 to really customize the feeling.

(The wires are going the other way now for where I mounted it. I took this picture when I initially installed it)

I installed it on the dash next to the steering wheel and ran the wires through the 1st empty plug. To get this plug out I had to pull the panel off on the left side to get behind the dash area.

I drilled the side of the blank switch plate out so the cord would run through it and look as clean as possible.

Here are the 3 places you can purchase it from (I purchased mine from amazon):

Off the line there is still a little lag, at this point, it's motor lag I feel. Only way to get rid of that would be a small turbo set up for torque. While driving it pretty much removes all possible lag. In sport + mode you tap the throttle and it wants to take off. Amazing product. I feel it was worth the money as it changes how it drives.

Other Toyota forums feedback, a lot like Sprint Booster?
Pedal Commander: does it work?
Sprint Booster won a SEMA award back in 2015 I believe.I bought the Sprint booster August 2020 for my 2016 Scion iM I am also using this with NST Lightweight crank pulley on my 1.8 and Quantum Solenoids intake & exhaust and INJEN fender well intake and JET mass air flow sensor ...
Normally I leave mine set at #5 setting in Sport mode daily driving .Race mode might be good for auto crossing 😎🇺🇸👍🙌

I'm getting mine installed this weekend. Wanted to know, do you still switch on Sport mode when you drive?

I bought my Weapon-R Intake from Weapon-R's website. They're in San Francisco and I had my order in 2 days, so that was nice. I paid $232.91 after tax and shipping.

Been thinking about one of these Pedal Commanders for a while and recently purchased one. Received and installed last night.

I cannot explain the difference! It may not have increased the torque or HP, but my car (2014 S Premium) has a much increased response. I love how it's easy to adjust for the WAF, Sport + is a large jump. Yes, I've used the Sport mode on my S Premium with both Track and VSC off, no comparison and the Pedal Commander starts up with the same setting as prior.

I'm not sure if it's still valid, but I also received 30% off using the SOCIAL30 coupon code. Simply put that into the order page at the Pedal Commander website for the savings.

I was skeptical, but now I'm not. Amazing the performance Toyota was robbing from our Corolla's with the stock throttle response. ECO mode provides even more of a delay than stock, supposedly it's an additional 20% economy in fuel consumption, I'll be resetting my display and tracking in ECO mode for a full week to provide a comparison. It's easy to turn off the commander for a return to stock and tuck it away during maintenance visits. No need to disconnect.

Really very happy I ran across the volksrods thread and learned how to install this product.

Very interested to see what your testing shows!! Ive been considering one of these for a while and if you can actually document a notable change, it may be worth the price!

Jolly,

Only one car.

The "pedal commander" has the following settings: ECO, CITY, SPORT and SPORT+

Sorry for the confusion, the "ECO" setting on the commander is supposed to be 20% better than the stock setting without the Toyota sport button pressed. If I had implied that I pressed an ECO button on the Corolla itself, that would be incorrect as you question as only the LE has that button.

Hope that explanation of the "ECO" button on the commander helped to clarify. Not trying to cause any confusion here :)

Oh ! I see. Thanks for the clarification. Will be waiting for your update !

Those of us in the 10th Gen Corolla forum went through this many years ago. I installed a Pivot 3-Drive throttle controller and loved the new found throttle response. I always left it in Sport 4 with no loss of MPG. I only used the Eco mode when it was snowing or ice on the roads but the addition throttle delay was helpful in slippery conditions. Enjoy your new throttle controller, they are amazing!

Here is when I had just finished installing it. I did a stealth install so I could close the cabbie hole and never even know it was there!

Just controls how much "Throttle" is actually sent to the cars computer.
Instead of a linear increase from the pedal, it puts the acceleration signals on a curve.

Personally I'm not a fan of them and have SERIUOS doubts about 20% efficiency increase as claimed. (This would mean my car would get almost 50MPG which I REALLY DOUBT!!)
If there was an easy way to increase mpg Toyota would have done it to keep regulators of their backs about fuel consumption.

The other end of the spectrum is it will send more throttle than you are pushing thus giving you a "Sport" mode.
I personally don't buy into that either because when I want to push the car faster I floor it. So this device would do absolutely nothing for me.

Chris Crash,
A great question as I'm sure others ask it as well.

Our Toyota's and many other makes/models currently on the market have moved to using electronic accelerator pedals in the car. Primarily for answering the ever increasing demands of fuel economy from customers. Besides increasing the efficiencies of the engine, the quickest and cheapest method of increasing fuel economy is to add a delay in throttle response. For our Toyota's and many other vehicles, even in "Sport" mode this lag is there.

So when you stomp on your pedal (100% to the floor), you don't have your throttle open to 100%, but a slow increasing ramp up when using the stock accelerator setup.

Throttle Response Controllers, like Pedal Commander and others mentioned in this thread, address that delay. Several are on the market, but the ease of installation and the four primary selections (Eco, City, Sport and Sport+) all have 8 settings, so it's highly customizable for an individual's comfort. ECO with -4 is significantly more delay than stock and can be extremely useful for snow or weather conditions.

As for the difference? I could not believe how much difference I have received, even with the S model "Sport" button pressed and trak and vsc turned off. I'd added better exhaust, cold air intake and still had not the performance I'd looked for. Again, to be specific, a throttle response controller does not increase HP or Torque, just allows access to what was there. The result was significant enough that I'm not feeling the need to add a turbo or supercharger that I cannot afford at this time.

With the 14 day money back guarantee, if you don't think it's of benefit yank it back out and send it back. I'm keeping mine.

MPG results with ECO set

Well I am actually quite impressed. This is after a week of primarily to and from work trips on I-5 from Federal Way to Tukwilla in Washington State. It's pretty flat with a few minor hills.

Couple of pointers before the image I snapped of my MPG result.

IMPORTANT: YMMV (spelling it out, your milage may vary). These are the results of my testing an due to my road conditions, weather and modifications to my car. Simply put you may not get the same results. I stand by what I received only for my vehicle, so this is the disclaimer that I'm not responsible for you purchasing one and not getting what I received.

1. You have to press and hold the program button for 2 seconds or longer on the Pedal Commander to switch to this mode, you'll see the amber light on ECO.
2. I did not adjust with the - button, so there are four additional settings below that I could select. Unless I'm escaping from snow situation, I don't think I'll ever go that low.

3. Trust me... Unless you are a serious MPG score junkie, you are not going to select this mode as your daily driver. I'll likely use it on snowy days. It's like moving through a swimming pool of molasses. I was sometimes worried that in the mode I'd not be able to get enough response to get out of tricky highway issue, then I remembered I could press the program button to switch to another mode if I had enough warning. Still not a great idea, it's like a rubber squeak toy is between your foot and the pedal.

4. I have an S Premium not the LE ECO version of the 2014 Toyota Corolla.
5. My trip counter is low as I reset it when I fill up my tank, gives me a better idea of the results as I can do the paper math to check the displayed results. Resetting the trip counter doesn't change your MPG result. Pressing and holding the DISPLAY button while on the MPG display does reset to 0.0. All I can say is trust me, if you don't there's nothing I can say to convince you otherwise.
6. No I didn't go to Mount Rainer and coast down the entire time. Did that a year ago and almost had 60Mpg, if only the world was always downhill, hmm?

Without further ado, here is the result compared to the 29.4 I had prior to the test. Let the cries of Shenanigans, No frickin' way and photoshoping begin!

While I received this result, it's back to the gas guzzlin Sport+ mode, I cannot stand the Pedal Commander ECO mode any longer for daily driving. :headbang:

My understanding of the throttle controller is that it in sport mode it will open the throttle more than your actually pressing the pedal and in eco mode it will reduce. For example if you step on the gas for 25% open throttle in sport mode it will open the throttle more than that so 30%,40%,50% etc depending on what setting your using.

True WOT is WOT, but think about that one second it takes you to step on the pedal to fully depress it. The signal will start at 0% and as the pedal goes down farther it will eventually open 100%. In sport mode it's giving that 0-100% WOT signal faster. Which eliminates lag time. Now can the actual throttle body open any faster? I don't know.. But the feeling is kind of like being heavy footed driver in sport mode even though your not actually a heavy footed driver and the opposite for eco mode.
