Anyone know if any puddle lamps exist for the '05+ Tacomas? I use to have 'em on my '01 Explorer and I must admit that I miss them. If no puddle lamps exist, does anyone know of any mods that exist. Thanks in advance!

Sorry

Heh, sorry guys. I didn't expect so many replies so quickly. The puddle lamps on the Ex were installed on the bottom of the side mirrors. When you hit the unlock button on the key fob or opened the doors, they would light up the area around the doors. It was pretty nice, actually.

Just another one of those things that Toyota left off IMO.

I agree. Anyone with some Tacoma wiring expertise know how one might go about wiring this up? To avoid messing with the factory mirrors, I might could mount a couple of LED's in a hidden area around the front of the running boards.
Yeah, I think someone with a good pair... can mod LEDs on the bottom of the mirrors. :D Otherwise, we need to find someone in China to fab the puddle lights for the Tacos. Maybe they can make them fold inward too.

Get something like this:

Only have to wire them up to power/ground, and have a wireless remote to kick them on. I'm planning on doing something similar. Would throw out a good amount of light while while camping, or when my wife gets out (since she doesn't have feeling in one foot).

I'm looking for a bit more subtle than the entire under-truck LED thing. Just enough to light up around the front doors will be fine. I actually forgot that I have a friend who works for Toyota's mirror/mirror housing supplier. He's going to check on 'em tomorrow. I knew working in automotive would pay off someday. ;)

I don't plan on putting them front and rear, just along the sides. Subtle? I thought you wanted to be able to see? When they're off you'll probably never see them. Tuck them up above the frame rail somewhere out of sight and away from rocks so they won't get hit when I offroad. From the pics it looks like they put out a lot of light so if they're mounted right then then could probably light up several feet from the truck. Nice way to see what you're stepping in. Probably better light distribution than any other light mounted on the truck, or in the mirrors that will move when you open the door.

But to each his own. I'm planning on a set for the bed as well so I can see that at night as well.
