This is a common issue and happens occasionally in the 5th gen RAV4s usually after a battery replacement.. The fix depicted in the video is known as the "REVERSE REBOOT." There is a long thread in this forum in the 5th gen RAV section. The fix has worked in many Toyota models.

 

FWIW; From the service manual:

"After the ignition switch is turned off, the radio and display receiver assembly or the radio receiver assembly records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch off, make sure to wait at least 120 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal."

 

Isn't it supposed to have security code entered?

 

We had that on our late 90's and very early 2000 cars, I never had to do that on any of our newer cars after those years.

 

I had to install a new battery and afterword my radio and navigation system did not work. This seems to be a common problem. I searched a number of sites trying to find how to restore it. Several sites suggested disconnecting the battery and leave it for awhile but that didn't work for me. I fortunately found this video on Youtube that restored my radio/navigation perfectly.

I'm sharing in case anyone else encounters this problem.

Thank you for posting this, It worked!! Dealer installed a new battery on my 2021 Highlander and the radio would not would not come on.

 

I have a 2012 Hilux and it has, well had, a sd card that was for resetting the radio and Bluetooth but no one told me that so now I have no sd card as I lost it and no radio!!

 

I just changed the battery in my 2020 xle myself. I removed the old one, used my other car to go to Walmart and bought a new one. Put in in the car and no problems. I wonder if letting the car sit without a battery made any difference or not?

 

I don't think so. Whether or not the touchscreen gets some problems or not after a battery replacement seems like it's random. Some 5th gen RAVs may have very minor troubles and some may have none. Any such touchscreen problems are always easy to fix by either the Reverse Reboot procedure or by checking and re-doing the various vehicle settings which might have gotten erased.
