Remove Speed Governor / Limiter

Can you use techstream to raise/eliminate the speed governor. I would like to push it to 155mph like my other cars. I could do this on my Range Rover/Jaguars with IIDTool.

I haven't seen anything in Techstream that would allow that. "Car & Driver Magazine" says we're limited @ 129 mph. Without the limiter some car magazines have guestimated the Avalon could top out at 140.....maybe.

I have a 2013 avalon limited, i just bought the D3 pro tuner, i raised my speed limit the other day, last night i was able to hit 151 mph before i ran out of road, there is still some more room, im guessing we can go to 160, btw i have upgraded my brakes to the same ones that are on the highlander, i really recommend to have the bigger break if you’re going that fast, really helped me when i needed to stop quickly.

thanks for the reply. It's FWD which hurts the dynamics a bit with torque steer but the power to weight is actually fairly decent for a sedan and the coefficient of drag is fairly low too at .28.
You can make it to potentially somewhere past 170 if you have no limiter and at least 360 hp under the hood. I had a supercharger on my car at one point, boosting my ‘06 to 385. I got it up to 163 mph on the highway one night with the feeling I could go a good deal faster, but stopped there because I didn’t have the confidence at the time to push it any farther.

Can't tell where you live from no info in avatar but I can't see anywhere that I could get the car over 110 on it's best day on the way to Arizona. 145 seems a bit hopeful.
I have pushed it up to 100 with no problem at all. very stable.

Too much traffic round here to go more and in CA 120 will impound car with reckless ticket.

I'm just not in that much of a hurry.

I think the hybrid is both heavier and about 26% less powerful than the 3.5L V6 so I would imagine you are correct in your observations, and I would imagine 129 MPH is likely the actual top speed for a hybrid.

A TAH has approximately 18.25 pounds per HP (assuming maximum output/charge) an Avalon V6 is approximately 13.25 pounds per HP. A 2017 530i has about 15 pounds per hp (and can be configured to 155mph governor) and a 2017 540i has 11.5 pounds per hp.

I guess the clarity my comment is how much 130+ speed do you use or need. Round here it's hard to get a spot for 100. 80 is everywhere. 130+ is insane here. I ride a pretty bad ass bike with NO governor and have rarely found a spot to throat it out here. Some back roads but few.

Also on the tech side of things the CVT tranny on the TAH is a new thing for me and a punch on the throttle gets the RPM up to max quickly and the tranny just follows and catches up. Really different than my other shiftable cars. I would suspect that the V6 has to push up the revs to get max HP. I don't know, but think that the hybrid top speed is more limited by the tranny. I don't expect that I would ever get the Avalon up to max speed.
That's what the bike is for if I need a thrill!

That is really two different questions. 1) I prefer naturally aspirated gas engines without hybrid technology but I also like supercharged gas engines. I am not too much of a fan of hybrids and CVT's. I think they are good for sort of appliance cars like a Prius but I don't think you will see a CVT in a Ferrari (however there is an awesome hybrid la Ferrari).

Hybrids do have instant on torque from the electric engine which is an advantage but once the charge is depleted they actually end up taking some power from the gas unit in Toyota/Lexus applications.

Very difficult to drive a Prius the speed limit through i70 mountains thru the continental divide, not as bad as a fully laden box truck but not easy. You lose 3% of power per 1000 feet in altitude. so at 10,000 feet you will have 30% less power when you need it most. with a TAH you would be looking at approximately 106 hp (by my calculations-- but could be wrong) with no hybrid power available and actually vamping the gas engine (it gets depleted with by the top of the mountain). So hybrids are nice but there are times when you want a lot of HP that is always on tap.

2) Power is something that you either want or you don't. I don't think I am going to change your mind or have my mind changed. I have hit limiters in Jaguars and taken a Prius to its limit so it depends on who you are what you want. I do however think there are many people in both camps. A lot of Priuses get sold, but so do a lot of powerful cars that can go speeds that you can't hit legally in CA. That being said, I would suggest power is very nice up mountains or in Death Valley going from CA to NV. That power in Death Valley can be the difference between driving comfortably with AC on or having an overheated car by over taxing a small engine. Places still have a unlimited speed limit although it isn't specified practically on i40 in NM you'll be able to hit a limiter. Now and then I want to get away from truckers or drunk drivers I think are driving unsafely and it is nice to be able to put some distance between them.

I think hybrids and fuel economy is important if you drive a lot of miles in a state where gas is expensive, like California or NYC area. But while it is nice to say "you don't need a car that can drive over the speed limit" I believe there are many situations when it is necessary 1) high altitudes 2) strenuous conditions 3) evading dangerous situations are just three. If you have a car that has some power it is nice to be able to use it.

Yeah i tuned it myself, although it wasn’t difficult, just a simple number change then I uploaded the file to my car with that software. No problem so far, i have gotten up to those speed a couple of times and it drove normal, the first time i got to those speeds was December 2021 and im still fine, also consider what your tires are rated for, mine are rated for 168, and i dont think i can go that high so im good.
