Removing gasoline from a 2003-2008 Matrix gas tank?

I have tried to siphon gas from my 2004 Matrix but It seems to have some sort of anti-siphon kink or check valve in the filler neck, (I think) so a hose will not go down into the tank. At any rate, I have not been able to siphon gas from my Matrix tank when I needed some at home.

To clarify, what is the easiest way to get gasoline out of a Matrix gasoline tank? Can I tap in somewhere along the fuel line by inserting a fitting and running the fuel pump?

Any ideas?

If you have a relay kit, you can use the fuel pump relay. Otherwise, you’d have to drop the tank.

75 aces, can you clarify what a relay kit is?

Can I just pull the fuel pump relay and stick a 'jumper wire' in the 2 appropriate slots to make the pump run? I am thinking of disconnecting thw hose at the fuel pump (underneath the rear seat) and pumping the gas into a container.

If you jumped the relay you would have to jump both the EFI and C/OPN relays (or jump from the EFI #5 pin to the C/OPN #3 pin.

Rather than disconnecting at the fuel pump I would suggest disconnecting the line in the engine bay and running a hose to the container. This will keep the smell out of the cabin.

Thanks Yoder. It makes sense to disconnect the fuel line inside the engine bay. Are the EFI and C/OPN relays in the same plastic box? The relay box that is in the engine compartment? 2004 Matrix.
