Replacing the alternator

After 185,000 miles, the original alternator on my 2001 Echo decided to take a vacation.

I got the replacement part, and my trust ol' tools. The bolt on top of the alternator was easy enough.

The one underneath is being stubborn. Not even new four letter words broke it loose.

Is there a trick? I tried a little WD-40 and let it sit for a while, no difference. I could get a longer handle on the wrench for additional leverage, but I don't want to break something important and/or expensive.

I just changed mine on a 2005 echo with 93000 klm's on without any problem. It was tight but came free OK. It is in a difficult location to get a torch too. Has he head rounded out. As a last resort you may have to use a hacksaw on the threaded end??

I just changed the belts on the Echo. Use some penetrant lube and use a cheater bar for more leverage. For some reason they put that lower bolt on very tight. Alway use a 6 sided socket on tight bolts and nuts.

I tightened mine but not as tight as it was.
