Hi all! We just got a 2016 xse 4 banger...it replaced a tch that was totalled. Since we've not owned a 4 cyl pure ICE in a while, I'm not sure if others notice rough idle. I can look at the engine bay and see the engine and coolant reservoir shaking. It drives smoothly otherwise. It seems only slightly less with ac off. Wondering if this is normal for a little 4 banger. Also, what's considered normal idle rpm? Thanks for any opinions. I tried the search function, but it returns error each time, and after scrolling through a few pages, I gave up and posted.

Engines shake.... are you feeling it excessively in the brake pedal or steering wheel? If not, don't worry about it. The drivetrain sits on rubbery mounts that reduce its inherent vibrations.

If not sure, then do the basics.... new PCV valve, oil/filter change, bottle or two of FI cleaner, replace engine air filter, inspect spark plugs(or replace depending on mileage), and use a different toptier gas station.....

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I've only twice been able to have an extra person with me to sit in the car with it in gear so I can look at engine bay. It's got 32k miles and looks like the 30k service was done as the oil and brake fluid is fresh looking. Put in some techron cleaner and we'll see. That dogbone engine mount looks intact. Just looked weird seeing that coolant reservoir vibrate almost like a paint mixer. I can move that coolant reservoir around by hand, seems like it's attached to the fan shroud and fan shroud on passenger side is moveable.
When kids come over for father's day tomorrow I'll recruit one of them as my safety brake and look again.

Happy Father's Day to all you Dads out there!

That vibration is not normal. Hard to say what may be causing it since you bought the car used and have no idea how it was driven by the prior owner. Since it's an XSE hopefully a street racing kid was not the prior owner because that kind of driving can sometimes cause damage that leads to idle shake.

Below is a video of another 2016 4 cyl Camry with excessive idle shake. I know it's not normal as I own a 2015 with 39,000 miles that is still vibration free and I have rented many more 2014-2017 4 cyl Camry's that idled smoothly:

I have a 2014 SE, I4 2.5. Same thing rough idle, took it to the dealer, and they we’re like what rough idle, they just said this is how it is. Improves a little with ac on. It’s been like this since new. I have 90K Miles now and it’s always just been a little rough. I think it’s just intrinsic to this motor.

Wow that video kathyricks posted is about what mine does. It doesn't show the coolant reservoir though, which seems to show the vibration more dramatically. Overall after some fuel injector cleaner it seems better, so I'll probably clean the maf and tb next. Thanks for the input!

I came back to this site after years because of my vibration issues with my 2014 Camry SE. The video kathyricks posted is exactly what my vehicle is currently doing. However, my vehicle was involve in a front end collision 2 years ago. It has had the rough idle since the crash but this month is seem to be getting worse.

I am do for an oil change in 1,000 miles as I currently have 38,000 on the OD, which I am just going to do next weekend to see if it helps.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Here's the thing....

About 20k miles ago I performed ATF drain and refilled. I plugged Techstream to get AT temp reading. As I'm plugged the OBD connector and turn my car to ACC: a code popped RIGHT UP. Out of my years work on Toyotas and connecting Techstream; that was a first! I didn't have CEL or did "health check" for running codes.

Rough idle code.

Thought it was a loose spark plug. Changed them out and put in tad more torque. Was there there!

Then last week.... Engine was ticking: normal sign for low oil level. Went to Oreilys for top off oil. (I always use Royal Purple): they still don't carry 0W-20. So I got Mobil 1. Filled it up in their parking lot. Drove my 40 mile drive to work. Rough idle slowly calm down.

Through out the rest of the week I kept watching the oil level and added if it was needed. I was due for oil change this week. Out of my curiosity; I bought Mobil 1 0W-20 and Toyota oil filter on Friday.

Guess what? Driven 175 miles already. That rough idle is COMPLETELY GONE! This vehicle has 217k miles on it.

One thing; I've also notice Royal Purple is heavier oil for 0W-20 compared to the others when picking up 5 quart jugs. Since I work at GM now and dealing with LOT of 5W-30 in oil guns that's across the shop so I have to use 8 quart oil container. 5 quarts of AC Delco 5W-30 in that jug weighs tad couple onces more than RP 5 quart jug of 0W-20. Which means throughout my 6 years of ownership; I was dumping in heavier oil. I might as well dumped in 5W-30 for past few years. No wonder why I always had rough idle....

I know it's been a few years, but thought I'd update what I found over time. The rough idle persisted, and past year seems to get worse especially right after start-up. I had done some maintenance on my daughter's 14 year old rx350, and recently changed the engine torque strut mount due to cracks seen on the rubber.

Well, I looked at the Camry's mount, and it was worse! I ultimately replaced with OEM 12363-0V070 (we have an xse), and the difference was immediate. That old part rubber was almost completely cracked through, and was loosey goosey. New one was so much tighter. Hope
this helps someone in the future
