I had the dealer remove the running boards from my 2016 LE. Of course this left four holes underneath on each side. The service tech looked for some plugs to put in but did not have any. He also checked with the parts department and they said they cannot be ordered. We looked at one on the lot that did not have the boards and the plugs are there. I also found the install instructions online that shows to remove the plugs.
Does anyone know a part number or where I can order these plugs?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

geez, your dealer should be able to track them down. Maybe they need to get in touch with the dock or place then install them before they hit the dealer. But that is why they are the dealer, to track these down. Hope someone here can help.

Your dealer sounds pretty lousy. I would walk in and request to speak to the new car sales manager, then the parts and service managers if necessary. Put your request in writing and explain what happened and what you've been told. Hand them your written request with your contact info. They should be able to get those plugs. It sounds like you will have to put your foot down with them.

You could try contacting one of the TN supporting vendors like Cool Springs to see if they can help with part numbers.

Maybe somebody that has installed the running boards can help more.

It sounds like you've only spoken to a service tech and the parts guy. Please stop by your dealer and speak in person to the new car sales manager. They are usually willing to help solve a problem with a new car purchase. Then speak to the service manager if necessary. Be polite but firm, and it helps if you can give them a quick summary of what's happened in writing. Let them know you are a TN member and would like to post a positive outcome with their dealership on the forum!

Looking at the instructions for installing the running boards (link to PDF on this page: https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~board~running~highd~pt938-48140.html), I see only one plug that they remove and discard for the rear mounting bracket (page 6). They also mention discarding (and replacing) an M10 bolt somewhere and another piece of plastic ("air diffuser") near the rear wheel.

Guessing, the plug looks like this one:

90950-01259

That guess is based on the assortment of Highlander body plugs found here:

(Click where it says "view more images", and look at the other images.)
That's the only big, oval plug in the bunch.

That plug is big enough to have a part number stamped on it. So in theory, you should be able to ask the dealer to pop one off another HL to check the part number.
