No belts, so I've never heard screeching. Hope you haven't driven enough to be past warranty.

 

You're right, kind of sounds like a slipping belt from olden days. Only 6,000 miles. Very disappointing as this is only problem I've had so far! Don't know if its dafe to drive to Dealer which is only 4 miles away! Will call in a.m.

 

Take the tow. It should be on them...unless the neighborhood cat count has dropped by one.

 

It’s probably a different issue, but I get an occasional screeching noise from the driver’s side door lock.

To isolate it, I switched the auto-lock setting from “upon shift” to “at 5mph” (or something like that— doors don’t lock until the car is moving) and it makes a loud squeal totally at random.

Impossible to reproduce so it’s yet another annoying issue with this Avalon that I just let slide.

 

The Dealer tells me it is normal to warn people your quiet hybrid is backing up! Funny it took a year for me to hear it..

 

As a side note the electronic parking brake makes an audible screeching sound when engaging and releasing.

 

I've never heard an "audible screeching sound" of any kind while driving, parking, turning, or any other activity in my 2019 Avalon Limited V-6. I'd say you have an issue if yours does make a noise.

 

Unless you know where the noise is coming from, don't believe there is any way to determine whether it is normal or otherwise!
If you cannot determine the source of the noise from inside the car, get someone to have a listen from the outside of the car.
Even if you bring the car into the dealership, they will still ask you where the noise is coming from, unless you can demonstrate to them right on spot.

 

Take the tow and let Toyota figure out what is wrong then report back to us what they said!

 

As al2019 stated it is most likely the rear electric parking brake. Mine makes a squeaking noise when they engage or disengage. You can disable the electric parking brake when putting the car into gear from park or vice versa. Your manual will show you how to disable that if you wish to.

 

I fixed my squeaking rear parking brake issue. When I was putting on the winter tires, I took off the rear calipers and shot a small amount of silicone spray between the piston and the rubber boot. Voila! No more screeching noise from the parking brake. I will make sure I give a small shot of silicone around the piston each year.

 

My Mom's Rav4 2021 I think does not make a screeching noise. You hear it engage and disengage and it just sounds like a solenoid or actuator type sound for a split second. In fact it almost reminds you of a door unlocking only slightly louder and more solid sounding.

So sound is coming from rear wheel area vs engine area as you initially thought? The eBrake motors are part of each rear brake assembly.

My car sounds like your recording.

 

I have a 2021 Avalon XLE Hybrid that makes the same type of noise. There is an explanation for it but I forgot what it is but it is nothing and there’s nothing to worry about.

 

The emergency brake makes a screeching sound when engaged, and maybe when released. Could this be what you're hearing. Check the owners manual and see how to disable the emergency brake to see if the problem also goes away. If so, you know the culprit.

 

The electric parking brake engages automatically when you put your car in PARK and releases automatically when you take your car out of PARK. That is what is making the noise. Nothing to be concerned about.
