I have a 11 camry le with 5k miles on it. I drive it pretty hard. Hitting 4k and 5k semi regular... Is 10k to long to have break in oil in there?

I'd say do 5k, or at most 7k, 10k is fairly excessive, even if the manual says so. It doesn't hurt to change it more often anyways, for parts, synthetic oil and filter can come out to around $30 on sales anyways, so why not.

Synthetic oils, with all of their detergents, actually do the most "harm" to the engine between 0-3,000 miles. The oil is at its peak protection level from 3,000-7,500 miles, and then after it's still good until over 10,000 miles. 10,000 mile oil changes, while new to Toyota, are not new to the automotive world. The Germans have been running them for over a decade and their intervals often exceed 10,000 miles. Run a Used Oil Analysis if you really want to be sure just how good these oils are and you'll see that 10,000 is more than adequate for intervals.

It depends on what engine you have. If you have the 3.5 V6 it takes 5w-30 oil, which should be replaced at 5k. If you have the 3.5 I4 it takes 0w-20 oil, which Toyota recommends to be replaced at 10k. Coming from religiously changing the oil on my old 98 Sunfire every 2500 miles, I think I'll do my I4 every 5k. I do half and half city/highway so it's a little harder on the car.

There was a time in the past when I would have agreed with you, but ever since this big disaster

I can't say I have 100% confidence in Toyota engineers anymore. :)

Let me add that I know people who own the slugde monster camry's and because they changed their oil every 3000 miles with synthetic, they have never had a problem.

These days, it is really hard to believe any "generic" rule for oil changes. Running a used oil analysis every "x" number of miles until you find the end of the life of oil for your car in your driving conditions is the only 100% safe way to go anymore.

I went through 2 cars with exactly the same maintenance - 5K, Mobile 1, and filter. The Mk7 302HO was spotless when I changed valve cover gaskets at 205K, and the 95 Celica lost oil pressure about 120K. Same oil, same schedule. I took the pan off and cleaned that and the pickup and it's OK for now.
My research at the time showed me that ignored maintenance could be a factor (not here) and also what I'll call air flow through the engine - sort of like do the gaseous oil particles or components get pulled out of the engine, or left in engine atmosphere to gel out. It also seems that when manufacturers do redesign a sludger they improve the crankcase ventilation flow and burnoff sizes. Apparently it's a real fine line to judge between sludge depositing and polution creation in EPA tests.
So old school mechanics see sludge as only an oil change issue, and new sludgers with poor ventilation last until they're out of warranty - and then they look poorly cared for whether or not.
Except for sludge blocking oil intake screen, I don't find it to be a problem - it looks bad - but the moving parts wipe themselves, and the return holes don't seem to sludge up - just stationary parts.
