Slight Braking one-time-faint-klunk/click on braking at low speeds

Does anyone get this noise? I checked around the tie rods / CV joints / upper strut mounts --- all that looks tight and secure. This seems to happen upon braking at low speeds --- probably engaging friction brakes around 15-20mph.
45K miles on my car....

I hear the "click" each time. AFAIK our '23 Limited doesn't do that. It doesn't quite sound mechanical, more like a micro-switch or something similar. I can't tell, does it seem like it's something inside the cabin or that it's coming from the outside?

In any case I'd take it to the dealer and share the video to see if they can reproduce it.

Yeah - feels half mechanical half electro-mechanical. I kind of feel it ... KIND of feel it through the other side of the firewall on the driver's side. I'm a bit reluctant to take it to the dealer without narrowing down what it might be ---- as the car is a 2021 - no longer under warranty.....

Someone told me that it might be the front brake pads moving around in the calipers - but that didn't happen from 2021-2024-August ...... its not like the ears of a brake bad wears in a sliding caliper arrangement......

Interesting. I can hear it during straight-line braking. Does it do it when you're turning as well and in the same way? Do you notice it only during low-speed braking or does it always happen? How about panic stops? Can you feel it in the brake pedal itself? How does the brake fluid level look?
The Brake Fluid level is about 2mm below the full line. The click only happens with VERY gentle low speed braking around 15-20mph. It does not happen with panic stops at all. I don't know if it happens while turning (I will have to try that). I don't exactly feel it through the brake pedal, but these things are kinda tricky --- I think I "feel" it on the other side of the firewall .... maybe.

Agreed, I've installed a lot of brake pads, calipers, rotors, etc. and although they can make some noise, I don't think it's the brake pads in your case. Could be a suspension part making noise as the weight shifts.

Very familiar with the hills in SFO, so probably not the ideal place, but if you can get out of the city, I'd try it on a quiet road. Maybe roll your window down, stick your head out while braking a bit and see if you can hear it any better. Maybe have a passenger assist from their side to see if you can narrow down where it's coming from.
Yeah, Thanks, I will have to try that ... Also I will have to try and get the car on my quickjack, off the ground, with the suspension unloaded, and crawl around underneath to see if I see anything. Since you're familiar with SFO hills I will say this ---- the click noise on gentle braking is tough to reproduce on flat land, but MUCH EASIER to reproduce after going UP a hill and then braking going DOWN hill!!

Ah - one more thing regarding turning --- I have a separate intermittent klunk in the steering at parking lot speeds, but I think this is a different issue --- the steering klunk is this issue on the FB group exactly ---- two other folks have it, and no one has found the answer -

All good info. It sounds more like a suspension issue by your description. Once you have it up on your QuickJack (love ours), try shifting the front tires to check for unusual noises/movement. Grab the front tires by the left and right sides and try shifting them in and out. Then do the same at the top and bottom. I wouldn't think that there should be anything moving or making noises at 40K miles or so, but things can get loose and parts can begin to fail for any number of reasons.

If you remove the wheels you could check the calipers for movement.

Otherwise check all four of the shock mounts on top and underneath. Take a look at the upper and lower control arm mounts and bushings. If any one of those is loose that could be the "click" as well as the intermittent clunk.

Keep us posted!
