Slight Vibration/Shimmy when accelerating

I wanted to see if other owners are experiencing a similar issue that Ive noticed once someone pointed it out to me.

When accelerating from a stopped position, around 15-30 mph there is a slight vibration in the floor pan. I dont feel it in the wheel or on the pedals, but i noticed the car slightly shake, then stop shaking. It only does it at low speeds and only while accelerating.

The car was recently dropped on coils and then had a front/rear alignment done to spec. It was only when the tech questioned and showed me that I became aware of it.

Does anyone else experience this? Is it due to the coilovers? Possibly a imbalanced drive shaft? Wheels/tires out of balance?

LMK what yall think.

I am having the same thing except I feel heavier vibrations. I just had new wheels put on last Tuesday and got my wheel alignment yesterday. Still shaking. The suspension shop that does my alignments said that the shop I had put tires on probably did a poor job balancing them and that they have a road force balancing system and that if I still feel vibrations I should return and have my wheels rebalanced. Guess thats something to do this saturday. My car is lowered on 9th gen Tein springs.

I'm beginning to wonder since you both have lowered yours and share the same symptoms,
If the U joints in the drive axles simply weren't designed to be run at that steep of an angle?

new or fresh tires can exacerbate and amplify any susp. problems or faults.
Because the tire(s) traction/friction on tacky tarmac surfaces will increase

I would first suspect alignment and tire imbalance.

Feel the same when ya rotate the rears to the front ?

Its strange, I had my wheels aligned on Tuesday, and I don't know. Today I drove on a perfectly smooth road and everything was buttery smooth. It might since I am on brand new tires plus the fact that I have Tein springs which drop my car 3". Hm, I will give it another week and see how it goes.

My tires are 225/40 R18.
The crappy part is that since Ive had the car, Ive never noticed it until the alignment tech pointed it out. Ive had these tires and rims along with lowering springs as soon as I got the car from the dealership, so Im not sure if its the tires/wheels. Since then Ive replaced the springs w/ coils then dropped it further (about 1 inch more F/R). Front wheels have a 0 toe w/ 1* neg camber, while the rear has 0 toe w/ 1.25* camber.

Since Ive first posted the thread, Ive gotten the dealership to take a test drive w/ me in the car to point it out to the tech during a scheduled maintainence interval. Tech said he felt nothing, but hes wrong. In any case, they rotated the tires, and I still feel it. Im beginning to believe its U-Joint or linkages. Ill keep updating as i find new things.

Any additional help would be great!

Hopefully I can provide some input here. I spoke with a technician about this a while ago, and they told me that this is a common "issue" if you can even call it that. If this is the same thing that I experience with mine every now and then. I have a 2016 S Premium with 10,000 miles on it now. Since day one every now and then there would be a little vibration to the car under acceleration at around 2-2500 rpm or so. It's very random, and does not do it all the time. They told me that this is a trait of having a car with an engine that has no balance shaft, since it is only a 1.8l. Like I said I am not sure if this is the same issue that you guys are experiencing, but it is a random vibration in the car under acceleration at low RPM sometimes.

I'm having my driver side axle replaced this coming Monday along with an alignment. When I was on air suspension I noticed this vibration on acceleration from 0-50 MPH. The vibration was felt on the pedals and steering wheel. I did some googling and came to conclusion it was either the axle or something to do with the power steering. Fast forward about 6 months later and I uninstall my air suspension and go back to stock for a month while waiting for my coilovers to arrive, everything felt nice and normal.

After installing my coilovers and lowering the car a bit (enough to close the wheel gap on the stock 17s) everything still felt normal and even the vibration on acceleration went away. Then it came time to service my car. Took it to the dealer and they came back and said my driver side CV boot is torn and throwing grease everywhere. He said they test drove my car and said the technician didn't feel anything odd while driving the car but it must've been hard to find anything out since the car is too bouncy (24k spring rates all around). The adviser said I should be able to drive on the car until I hear the clicking whilst turning. He quoted me $900 for the repair and mentioned if I get the TRD axles they would last longer but I would be spending over $1k for the repair (never could find these axles online). At this point I still have yet to get an alignment 2 months prior to installing my coilovers as I wanted to lower the car more once I got new tires and I did lower it, the car was on the ground at this point. A few days go and there are several things I noticed driving at this height:

- I finally hear the clicking noise associated with the broken axle. At the start of turning my steering wheel I hear about 2-3 pops and then the sound that sounds like using a socket wrench follows as I complete my turn.

- Going into reverse the car feels like it's stuttering letting it roll backwards on its own, with no pedal input.

- Knocking noise whilst stopped at a light (I've read this may be the exhaust cooling down)

- Burning smell while using AC or heater which turned out to be my wheels just rubbing.

After all these problems started occurring, I raised the car up by 0.75 inches. I'm still pretty low but all of the problems that occurred went away. No more noises, no more clicking noises from turning, no more issues going into reverse. I'm wondering how the car will feel after the repair and alignment this coming monday. I'll be sure to update if anything happens afterwards.

Oh and if anyone was wondering, I bought the axle off of Rockauto and the cost of the repair is $100. The shop I'm going to is a performance shop.

Thanks for the info @Brotha.

Yeah, my buddy and I are started to suspect its the balance on one of the axles up front. Mine only seems to be in the 15-25mph range. Im currently on Tein Coils and dropped about 2.75F 3.25R. I dont think thats too low at all, but Im starting to think its the U joint at the CV boot that cant take that angle. I dont think Im the only one.

Last time I was under, I never saw any grease or a torn boot, so I may just be at the threshold of feeling it but not causing damage (yet). Not sure.

Let us know if anything changes with your ride, Brotha!
Ill update if I find anything useful.
