Small chunks of foam blowing out defrost vent?

For about a year or more, every once (mostly winter) in awhile I will find little deteriorated chunks of foam blowing out my defrost when the fan is cranked up.

Is something not being sealed right because of this? Is it worth pulling the dash and heater box to find out the problem?

I also have a flickering heater control panel light that works sometimes on, then flickering, then off and all over again. I replaced the bulb years ago with an LED along with all LED's on the instrument cluster. The cluster bulbs still work great but the heater control panel is flickering. Bad bulb or wiring/loose connection problem?

Otherwise the heater works fairly good for as much as I know.

I would like some advice on what ya'll think about the foam blowing out and the flickering/annoying heater light. Thanks.

Some of the diverter doors in the ductwork are foam lined, and the foam disintegrates over time. Could also be a filter for the air.

these trucks didn't have a cabin filter. You forgot the most common thing: mice. they love to make nests in HVAC systems. I just had to evict some of the bastards from the ductwork in my new truck that I've only had 2 months!
