Squeak in dash/steering wheel???? 2020 Corolla SE

Hi everyone! I bought a 2020 SE a few months ago with 4K miles on it. I noticed a few months ago a squeak around the dash area when I hit uneven surfaces. I brought it to my mechanic and it didn’t make the noise so he couldn’t hear (just my luck). The squeak still happens to this day. When I say squeak, it’s like a squeak and a click. But it DOESNT happen when I turn the wheel, so I know it’s not something to do with the steering column. I’ve had no issues at all handling the car. It only happens on uneven pavement and it sounds like it’s inside the car. The only way I can copy the sound is by pushing my steering wheel as far into the dash as possible with a little bit of force, and it will copy the little squeak/click. Has anyone noticed this on their car or have any thoughts on what this could be??? Sometimes it doesn’t happen and sometimes it does, it’s not super loud, and my passengers say they never hear it. I think I’ve just become so accustomed to listening out for it. Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

I'd be careful... my rav4 did this and after a few seasons from cold to warm everything settled and doesn't make any noise ... my Corolla does the same so I shall wait.

Mother in law had same issue on her new accord (my Acura did too) she kept taking it in and all they do it was take everything apart and put foam tape then reinstall. It made it worse everytime she went back the sqeak turned to a rattle and it drove her nuts.

That’s really interesting because when I told my mechanic what the noise was (even when he didn’t hear it) he said it could be cold weather. I live in the Bay Area so it’s not super cold here but it has a been a bit colder than usual. Do you suggest waiting until warmer weather to see if it settles? I’m a first time car owner so I greatly appreciate you taking the time to respond to me! :)

My experience with squeaks and rattles is to unfortunately let them be. Trying to fix the problem makes it worse half the time....

FWIW my 2020 Corolla rattles and creaks from the dashboard when its cold out too, stops after the cars warmed up inside, its just the plastic slightly changing shape and flexibility.

Thanks so much for you insight!! I definitely wanted more opinions before taking it into the dealership, where I know I’d pay a good chunk of money for it to may not even be fixed. It seems like these noises in the dash are pretty consistent with cold weather too. My car is outside all day everyday and I notice I drive it mainly when it’s the most cold (early morning/evening because of work)

2009 Acura tsx premium
2014 Honda accord sport
2016 Honda accord touring

All 3 same noise when cold, not specific to Toyota either it seems...
Super interesting. Do you think it’s a mix of plastic and metal components? My noise is definitely from the dash in the steering wheel area but my passenger side seems to creak when first driving the car in the morning
