Starting 2004, which I4 and V6 had timing belts or chains?

While looking for a used Camry, I guess it would be to my advantage to buy one with a timing chain or plan to replace the belt. I have never changed a timing belt but I'm sure that I could, time to do it is the issue. I would assume that around 100K would be when you replace it.

My sister just had a belt changed in her Toyota highlander and it cost her $1500 at the dealer. I'm looking for a car with around 100K, so it would be a factor of what I buy.

02-06 V6's are belts.

1500? That is expensive to me, and i am in Canada where prices are jacked up.... I only paid 700 for belt and water pump which i still consider a ripoff.

I believe the v6 after 06 has a chain. It is easy enough to tell if the engine uses a chanin or belt. Engines with cam belts have plastic covers to protect the belt. Engines that use a chain to drive the cams have sealed metal covers that are necessary because the chain is oil lubricated. Regards
