Steering Assist does not work

Just bought a 2021 Avalon limited and the steering assist does not work at all. Dealer keeps telling me there is nothing wrong with it because it "beeps" when it crosses a driving lane. I told them it supposed to self steer correct but mine does nothing but just continue into another lane and even off the road if you let it. Have brought it back twice to San Antonio and dealer keeps telling me it is ok. It is amazing that a Toyota dealer like Alamo Toyota Service Department doesn't even know how their products features should work. I've already spent two 2.5 hour trips back to the dealer and then spent over 5 hours today and 3 hours a few weeks ago. I'm demanding they rent me a car and fix the vehicle. We have owned 5 Toyotas in the past and love the brand and are loyal to it, but this experience is making me re-think that...
Can anyone offer any advise on a path forward?

I agree. I'd call and ask to talk to the General Manager of the Dealership you've been dealing with and express your concerns. Civility is your friend. Explain to him how difficult it is to run back and forth and express that one big reason why you picked a Toyota was for that assist feature for the added level of safety etc. Take names and notes.
If that fails to get some satisfaction then contact Toyota thru one of the options listed on the site below.

I like well thought out emails that I can refine several times before sending them since I tend to get irrated and says things that don't help my case or explain clearly the issue and it gives me a paper trail. Thats me. :)
I'm optimistic that the GM of your dealer will come thru.

PS
Can you have someone sit behind you and video what the cars does when the assist is on and you let it wander and don't correct it. You or your helper can narrate too. I'm sure there's a stretch of empty Texas road you can safely demonstrate that on. Just be sure and not esceed any speed limits etc. that the video may see. Just an idea.

So its turned on in the MID and you pressed the LDA button on the steering wheel which makes the lane lines appear on the MID. The lanes are solid and you are driving over 32mph. It still doesn't nudge you to the left or right once it detects that the car is going over the lane lines? hmmm, you'll have to go through toyota corporate or go to another dealer.

Yes what you describe is accurate and I'm afraid of this journey continuing down the Corp road but I don't know what else to do. Can't believe this dealer doesn't understand how the LDA is supposed to function. As I've stated previously, I have a 2020 Highlander and the LDA system functions flawlessly so I'm very familiar with how it Supposed to function. Thanks Keith

Challenge the actual service manager to take the ride with you in a similar vehicle, in which you can show the expected behavior that yours does not do. If s(he) refuses, include in your discussion with the mothership.

If you are expecting Level-2 driving assist you are going to be disappointed.

Drove 100 miles on interstates today. Could have taken the Avalon with its higher MPG and TSS 2.5 or a '19 Rav4 with lower MPG and TSS 2.0 with but driver assist. Similar trim levels (Limiteds) and with all packages on both. Took the Rav4 because it makes for easy driving on well marked roads with it doing the steering to keep the car within a lane. You have to have your hand on the wheel and eyes on the road but for a long drive it makes the concentration a bit easier.

Seems sometime in the last few years Toyota decided to omit that feature on Toyotas no matter that they may list for $46k and only provide it on the Lexus brand.

Went to another dealer, AutoNation, Corpus Christi, and they reset and calibrated the LDA system, all good now.
Thanks Everyone!
The dealer in San Antonio, Alamo, didn't even know how the steer assist part of the LDA system was supposed to work and keep telling me everything was working properly. Pretty sad...

I would let dealership owner/ GM know how ignorant and condescending their service dept (including service manager?) is. They likely care about not ticking off customers with arrogance, 'cause it's their money.
