Steering column moan or whine sound

I have searched the forum several times, over several days with different search words, but I am unable to find posts that I was sure I remember reading several months (or maybe a year ago) about a moaning or whining sound when the steering wheel has pressure applied to turn. 2009 V6 AWD. 30,000 miles. It only does it when it seems that power assist is applied to the steering, not throughout the whole turn. It doesn't it do it in the morning... I think the electric motor for the power needs to "warm up" or get used a little each day before the sound starts. Once it starts, it is very annoying all day. On the highway, or with the radio turned up, it is hard to hear. The dealer today, says "Normal" (NO SURPRISE)

Any help finding the previous posts... or anyone experience this and had it fixed, so I can tell the dealer what to look at?

Thanks for any help!

My steering whined quite loud but intermittently after the first 3000 km. (For the first 3000km, it was totally silent.) Dealer replaced it the whole steering assembly. The whine had become much subtler but was always there; could be easily heard when parking into my garage. I took it back to the technician who did the replacement for me. He heard it but said it was normal for electric power steering. What could I say and just accept it. I had that for a whole year but it still bugged me as I never had any noise for the first 3000km and my friend driving another Venza does not have hear any sound. When I took it for service, I complained again. This time I got the service manager test drove with me. Since he had driven a Venza himself, he commented he did not like the noise even it is not loud. Then he agreed to replace the steering assembly one more time. I did that just last Saturday but to my disappointment, the whine is still there with slight turning. Not sure what is next.

I remember I read the manual some where; it says the electric power steering motor may make some whining noise and it is normal. But understanding is when there is more load eg harder steering, the motor may whine but it should not happen with slight turning. What bugs me most is, for the first 3000km, I didn't hear a sound and a lot of owners don't hear a sound either.

The whine I am talking about is not clicking noise but more like a whistle or wheezing noise.
I'd like to know how many owners are experiencing this whine or whistling noise with steering.

I am curious to know what others experience. Can we have a survey among the owners on the below:

Constant whine/wheeze on steering: Y/N
Momentary whine/wheeze with fast/big turning: Y/N
You think this is normal and acceptable: Y/N
You think this is not acceptable and need a fix: Y/N
Have you had this fixed and how?

BB

My 2015 Toyota Venza XLE 6 cylinder steering started to whined after the odometer turned 20919.8627 km this week. The first 20919 km. was totally silent.) It can be easily heard when parking into my garage. I took it back to the Toyota technician who also said it was normal sound for electric power steering. I'm not pleased with the response but what can I say for a vehicle that is now discontinue? Demand that Toyota correct the steering problem or trade in the vehicle for something more quieter or trade in the vehicle. Maybe it’s time to upgrade to a Benz, BMW or Audi. No more Toyotas for me.
