Is that similar to when your power steering is cutting out mid way through?

Is your steering pump fluid to the min line when cold? Any whines from the pump itself when you turn or it get's a little chilly?

I noticed a slight knocking in my steering while on rought dirt roads. Other Tacomas I test drove had the exact same feeling.

 

Yes I have. especially when the truck is not moving and you are pulling out of a parking space, then it can be real clunky. Try driving down a dirt road, the truck sounds like the front end is going to fall out. This is one of the more disappointing things about buying a 30 thousand dollar mid size truck.
