My Taco just started this today, can't put it in Drive or any other gear without pushing that little release button to the left of the shifting handle. Any ideas what might cause this, anybody had this problem before?

interlock switch not working. normally it clicks when you turn the key into Run position. Check that first.

Safety feature on the autos so you can't put the vehicle in gear unless you're stepping on the brake. It's the little button down by shift lever. It goes out with a specific fuse (IG1) along with the turn signals and other weird stuff.

Do you have a tow package? Check for shorts in the plug--water, mud, cracked insulation, etc.

That fuse also powers the backup lights I think. Some people have added backup lights to the same fuse, and it blows as well.

There are lists in other messages about what all is on that fuse, to give you a clue as to where to look.

i am looking at all data online and according to the wiring diag., the 10amp fuse labled BAT (controls the brake light switch). If this is the fuse that keeps blowing check for a bad brake light switch, its on the brake pedal. if you have brake lights on all the time then thats your problem. also look under your dash you might just find a loose wire which is shorted, this is prob what is happening since you said the repl of fuse helped for a while but as you were driving it blew again. something that moves like a wire touching groung will blow fuse.
