Sunroof rust

Should get pictures, I know, but is anyone else seeing it on theirs?

The rubber seal that goes around the roof glass is rusting from the inside out on mine. you can see visible oxidation and the seal is a bit "crunchy" toward the middle. Now i know it sounds like i mean the seal itself is rusting, but its not.. The metal bracket that goes around the glass, that the seal attaches to, is rusting.

56K miles.

still no call, so i left a message on their facebook page, which prompted a call in about 5 minutes.

on the phone, the rust coverage is for perforation (holes) only 5 years / unlimited miles. my rust expired at 3 years or 36K miles on the car. the tech, brian, told me that it is a $103 diagnostic fee to have it looked at, and that it would most likely NOT be covered under warranty...

trade in for a veloster is looking better and better everyday!

believe me, i've had a hard on for that thing since it was introduced as a concept. i've driven the N/A one a few times now and it's peppier than the S, as well as lighter with a smaller engine.

my only dislike is all the buttons on the dash.

I like the car but hate that it's only a 2 door. The lines are nice but that front grill is seriously ugly Looks like one of those fish with a large mouth. I also like how clean the dash is on the Corolla & my 440 watt JBL stereo plays plenty loud. :D

Compared to the Corolla dash anything has more buttons, plus the near 500W sound system will quickly help you overcome any aversions you may have.

...besides
after you hit the "Engine Start" button at the bottom, you'll be spending the majority of your time looking out for auto-x cones.:D

I think by perforate they mean it penetrates all the way through creating a hole. Surface rust doesn't count I don't think...:ugh3:

a hatchback with 4 doors is a wagon  i call the matrix a tiny wagon.

i'm not a big fan of the grille, however the aftermarket available is HUGE, and with the turbo model coming out in the next few months the N/A price is going to drop.

i also agree with you on the simplicity of the corolla dash and the factory system is really good. im just disappointed since i expect issues like this with my 12 year old mitsubishi, not my 3 year old toyota and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Dang. That is some pretty nasty rust. I don't have anything like that on my 15-year old Corolla.

Honestly, don't call them in advance and tell about the problem. That just gives the dealership time to prepare excuses to deny your warranty claim. Have the phone number for Toyota Corporate customer service on speed dial in your cell. Refuse to pay for any BS diagnostic fee. The car should still be under the rust warranty. Double check your owners manual/documentation and shove that in their face if they want you to pay a fee. Threaten to call Toyota Corporate and complain of lack of after sales customer care right then and there.

I'm pretty sure they'll be nicer to you and more accommodating afterwards.

As for the replacement car, just save up a bit more for now. Test drive the BRZ/FR-S. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

i am also having this problem and so far, 2 dealers have said that corrosion warranty doesn't cover anything besides the body itself(metal)...not the sunroof itself...it's a shame though since the car has only 2 years and it's rusting already...the guy at the dealer told me the rubber that surrounds the sunroof is $40...but i was like, the rubber itself does't have metal so the rust must come from the frame itself. which costs $700 the part alone. i called the regional office of toyota and the service rep told me they could only offer a discount on parts or labor. i am really disappointed with this so please let me know whatever happens with yours. I would also trade it in if it weren't paid off, and if I wouldn't like everything else on the car. i would trade it for an Si tho...
