After 4 years of this car, and rather careful care, yet not garaged, as most of my other cars......

This paint has flakes and chips more than any of my other cars, pretty much COMBINED!!!!

My cat has jumped on my car on a couple of occasions, and 2 days ago he took a chip out of the paint with his CLAW!

You might get a indent or scratch on the clear coat...but I have metal showing from my cats claw mark!!!

So far 2 chips in the hood, and the lower bumper, door edges have chips, yet those are the easiest to touchup, so I never bother with edge guards. A couple on the fender and a few on the doors, and a couple on the rear bumper...WOW!!!

And I wash this, as my other cars MYSELF, with a pretty high level of care.

So since I am repairing the rear accident and taking it to a body shop, should I be asking them to paint these spots also(they might charge, or maybe they will do what they do in pricing)?

Or should I just touch them up with a touchup paint kit that I bought that matches my paint myself?? Or would thay make a tiny dot sized mask and use the spray to cover the chips?

I ask for some opinions(and hoping from some experience or knowledge of body painting), as I would hate to have over spray blends on 6 or more areas on the body to touchup blemishes(nail head size to smaller chips out of the paint).

My wife got her HL for 5 months now. In terms of paint, so far it's holding up much better than our Infiniti/Nissan (2005/2009).
I am basing this on number small rock chips in the front bumper and hood. Our HL has the blizzard perl.

That's interesting, but the front is always prone to some chips due to driving. These chips are not those....well, other than the couple on the edge of the hood.
I would take some close up images and show you what I mean, but I plan to take the car in tomorrow. lets see if I can do it before its in the shop

I wouldn't paint the ft end, as it will just get chipped up more with sand/fine pebbles. Just touch it up. I've noticed the windshield, when you get the light just right on it, is full of very tiny mini impacks from large pieces of sand to small gravel, like less than pea size will leave a mark on the ft end & windshield.

Paint is Toyota's biggest negative for me. My 07 Tacoma with less than 1000 miles had literally zero paint left on the rear lower fender flares from winter driving(maybe bad design but I had to buy running boards to stop the problem even with the biggest mudflaps known to mankind on that thing). My 2012 Camry has 93k and I do run it alot in winter but the front end and basically all over is chipped up really bad. Front is the worst, lower bumper is sand blasted looking(and I am not a tailgater). My new Highlander had 3 or 4 chips on it when new due to a dealer trade during winter months. So far other than those(which i have touched up) the paint is good but I don't have high expectations. My 2012 Jeep I traded had way better paint in my opinion. Seemed a lot thicker than any Toyota I have owned.. you should see the roof of my brothers 2010 tundra...right at the edge of the paint at the windshield is a chipped up rusty nightmare and he only has about 70k on it. thats a big truck to have that high of chips being a problem..Then again my other bro's 05 tundra is looking really good for its age so who knows with that..

In comparison to the 2014 Charger we traded for this 2017 HighLander the Charger had much better paint both in thickness of the color coat and the clearcoat. In this day of fast anti corrosion dips, electrostatic application of color and computer controlled clear, it's a wonder any of us Toyota owners have paint left after two years. It would be interesting to know, by weight, how much paint (color and clear) is actually on our various models.

Blizzard Pearl cars have a thicker layer of paint (I was told by dealer) because of which they used to cost $500 more in 2014 not sure now.

Coming to touchup of chips the bodyshop gave me a sample bottle like 100ml of extra paint after a recent body work on door scratch I did on my accord .

If the body shop guys are kind enough they should be able to touch up the chips.. if we are talking of repainting from foundation level .. you may need to use your persuasion to get it done all in one shot

I used to have a 2003 camry SE (bought it used) .. It used to have lot of chips on the hood may be the previous guy was tailgating trucks??
but in toyota nation I have found people complaining of paint being too delicate for that generation of Camry's
