Now thats its A/C season I have noticed a ticking noise like a fast clock coming from the vent blower. Only hear it on the lowest setting, but it is evident when you don't have the radio on etc.

Can a leaf or something get in there? I hate to pull it apart when maybe it's a defect. Anybody had this problem?

Look at the bottom of this thread. Does that sound familar? I think it's a bearing in the blower motor. Some people have had luck getting the motor behind the glove box replaced.

Thats it! Thanks Boone! I must have missed this thread back in Feb.

Check your air filter behind the glovebox also. Sometimes if its not snapped all the way in you will hear more blower noise. You can also check for debris by sliding the airfilter out.

I have found leaves, twigs and dry bread in my fan motor. It's only three bolts.
WOW, behind the filter? I have had all the spring dingle berrys and worms coating the truck every morning. Thats what i was origionallly suspecting.

I have this exact problem. Started soft, barely audible this winter. It's pretty warm today (60s) and it was so loud I was ready to drive to the dealers and skip work. I put my ear to the motor and cranked up the fan. I heard what sounded like the blades clearing an obstruction, then it quieted down. It's bearable now, but I still hear it. Angus_NB, 3 bolts? Easy off and on? What's all involved?

i know this is an old thread, but i have the EXACT same problem! i just purchased my tacoma used, so it still under the certified warranty. i had the dealership look at it today, said it was normal??!! i'll check for anything down there, but if anyone has some updated info that would be great!

no i have not owned this truck long, but i did have my 98 for 4 years, never did this!!

maybe cause im tall or something, but it is a very annoying high pitched bearing noise. i have build a few "silent" computers, so i know a bearing noise when i hear one. when a fan bearing is going out, it begins to make that noise...

so no, its not normal...

Then we must be talking about two different noises, because I too know what the high pitched bearing sound sounds like too. I was referring to the incessant ticking that has been said to be caused by some sort of emissions thing in our trucks.

I just bought my 07 tacoma 2 months ago and I have this ticking noise. The ticking increases when you change the speed from 1 to 2. I cannot hear it on level 3 and 4, but it's just because the sound of the air coming out covers it up. I've debated calling the dealer on it, but I know they'll tell me not to worry about it, but then again my dealer service department is pretty bad.

I have the same sound on my 05 , low speed you can barely hear it. My GF has sensitive ears and it pisses her off everytime she gets in my truck. Guess I'll have to pull it apart at one point.

Ya I can definitely hear it too between the first and second settings. Has anybody been able to fix theirs? Otherwise I guess I could always dump some money on an exhaust system and hope to just drown it out. Anybody with an exhaust setup can you hear yours still tick?

man i love search functions..
this sound has been driving me insane since i got my truck 3 months ago! if you turn off your radio, put fan speed on 1, and listen down near where the passengers feet go, its coming from right there... i thought it was leaves in there cause sometimes when i cranked the fan for a minute then put it back to 1 it would go away.

anyway, glad to see im not the only time.... time to investigate

I posted about this from day one and the other ticking noise by the door pillar, both to no avail, and now have been waiting since September for the parts to arrive in completion for the damn rear end. FRUSTRATED is to say the least about these problems, but I remind myself of past GM or Fords that I owned and how the Tacoma is so far better than them and the fact Toyota is adressing the most obvious problems. Ford and GM would wait for a court order.

Were is the ticking coming from, your blower motor or your vents. I had a similar problem. For some reason, just inside the vents there is a piece of black foam that is about 2x3in. and is about 1/8 of an inch thick. It has an adhesive backing and is stuck onto the bottom of the vent duct work. Well, a couple of these had come loose and the air blowing by caused a ticking sound. All I had to do was reach inside with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull them out. I don't know if this is the same problem you are experiencing but in my case it was.

I just took mine in to the dealership today and they told me they compared it to another new Tacoma and it made the same noise and that it must be normal! Don't you think I wouldn't be wasting my time bringing it in if it had always done this!

Its the heater acctuator motor. There is a gear on there and it hasnt come to the spot where the temp is set and it is stuck stripping the gear out. Mine did it too. So with the heat on an fan motor on low turn from hot to cold and i bet it will stop at some point.

Unfortunately not for me, mine was doing it in the later summer months (september/Ocdtober) also...

I have (had) the exact same ticking and when I searched this on the forum I read where someone just hit it with their fist and it stopped:lol:- well I tried this and the shit stopped!! It will probably start back but at least I get some relief for a while. It is annoying as hell!
