Hi folks. Picking up my first Toyota this weekend.

Buying it off of a friend. 93 Camry, Auto...2.2 LE.

It has 187, 000 on the clock. I am going to do the timing belt, just because I'm paranoid. He did one at 100k. Hope I do it Right....

I was watching you tube clips and it appears they were doing the oil pump seals also? Should I do that?

Theres a pwr steering leak, but more towards the center of the back of the engine, not near the pump. Im thinking maybe the rack needs changed.

I must say after all the reading I've done, these 2.2s must be a great engine. It does run very well.

As to the hydraulic fluid leak, if the fluid is dark, brown, or obviously well used, then try putting new, fresh hydraulic fluid into the system. Doing this will improve sealing and possibly stop the leak which you mentioned. One method consists of draining the fluid reservoir bottle near the passenger fender, refilling with new fluid, driving a few miles, then repeating enough times until you have essentially a hydraulic system with new fluid.
... Success here depends on the severity of the leak, but this method actually worked on my car. Maybe add a bottle of some kind of seal conditioner. ... guessing that you may have original factory hydraulic fluid in yours, so this is worth a try maybe.

The leaks not pouring out. But I need to fix it for sure, it's dripping slowly. But I'll try your method for sure. It can't hurt.

Looks like he has been using transmission fluid, since the leak started. I'll grab some pwr steering fluid, and maybe some type of Lucas conditioner. Flush it out and if it works that would be great.

Actually, as I recall, the factory recommendation calls for using transmission fluid in the hydraulic system, rather than hydraulic fluid. So find a user manual and check on that. The Lucas conditioner should be okay though. Good idea to be sure what the correct fluids are ... on one occasion I used regular ATF fluid when I should have used the T-IV version.

I will look it up and make sure. I found a Lucas product on Amazon. Had something to do with power steering. Maybe it will stop the leak, that would be great if it did. If not I will be laying on the garage floor trying to change rack. LOL

At that mileage, YES!

Yeah I kind of figured at that mileage I might as well do it while I have it part. I noticed people on YouTube were doing that when doing the timing belt. If I can get it to make it to 300,000 that would be great. But I don’t know these cars that well.

Use Valvoline MaxLife in the P/S system. It has a helluva lot of seal conditioners anyway, usually stops minor leaks (just stopped one when I flushed a neighbor's '05 4Runner P/S). Check out speedkar's video on flushing Toyota P/S systems on YouTube, works great for me.
