Traded a 2012 1.4 Turbo Cruze for a 2014 Corolla LE Eco. The small turbo engine in the Cruze was pretty good but I prefer the 1.8 engine in the Corolla. Performance is nearly exactly the same and the fuel mileage is better in the Corolla. A turbo just adds one one expensive thing to the mix that may fail down the road. I'd rather have a little more displacement than a turbo.

yeah its true that Toyota has the FRS and Tc. however, no sporty subcompact sedan. for me, the current corolla could use some zip in its step. TRD attempted the sc for the 1zz fe for the 9th gen. Chevy has gone with smaller displacement and turbo in an effort to have best of both worlds in mpg and fun. yes added cost of maintenance for turbos. however, sc does not have exposed turbine like a turbo and will last longer between intervals.

They are always a little late to the party but in return you get a better thought out out car. I think its possible for another 11th gen model in a few years, They'll see how it sells with the turbo and then make it a more standard sport model for the 12th gen, but only time will tell.

There's no turbo in the foreseeable future of the Corolla. Perhaps they'll surprise us.
