Folks,

I have a Toyota Sienna 2011 XLE (premium package). I'd like to add a rain sensor, HID lights, and auto light to it. My van has the light sensor installed on it but on the headlight lever it deos not have the "auto" option. I talked to the dealer about this and he told me that only the Limited model has that option. I do not know why they put the light sensor there but it does not work even my 2000 Toyota camry has that option. My first question is: How can I have the auto light option on my car? Can I just replace the lever? I also would like to add some other features that available only in limited package to my van like auto rain sensor and HID headlights. I wanted to rder them from Toyota but they told me they won't do that. Is there any way that I can upgrade my can to thses useful features?

Please help me

Thanks

I dont think that adding the lever would automatically give you that capability but you can give it a try. As far as HID 's are concerned. buying one from dealer is pointless as it will cost you thousands to buy the HID genuine kit, new headlight housings as your housings has H11 adapters, and wiiring. Best bet is to buy an aftermarket HID kit on ebay (will cost you as little as 40 bux shipped a kit) and install it yourself. check out my thread

and rain sensor, not possible either as it will cost too much money to do it legitimately. Ive heard of aftermarket rain sensors also but theyre no good as it ends up being incompatible with many cars. my friend owns a shop and it has a 70% failure rate so he stopped selling them. hope it helps!!

Been there and done that. I picked up my 2011 XLE w/ Prem. package about a month ago. I got the same response when I asked my dealer about adding front sonar sensors. My understanding is that the the front sonars of the limited model use the same module/display as the xle model does. I still don't understand why they cannot be simply added to the xle model. Most of the $30k cars that I know out there have auto light / memory seat / rain sensor as std. options. Ours don't! :headbang:

I agree with you

My 20K 2009 Mazda 3 came with rain sensing wipers, auto on/off Xenon HID headlights, leather interior, auto multi-zone air conditioning, tire sensors and 5 speed autostick transmission. I never have to touch or adjust anything. Just start it up and go...:) Come on Toyota...quick raking us over the coals...

Well, in this day and age of word of mouth spreading over various social networks, sellers need to decide whether buyer's complaints can legitimately hurt future sales. But my guess is, Toyota didn't want to blow their whole wad the first year of a new generation. They probably have plans on moving certain options to the lower models while bringing in newer mods to the top models. I see massaging recliners in the Sienna's future. ;)

We're talking about America, right? Where the seller charges whatever the seller wants and the buyer can choose to buy or not buy among the options the seller offers or buy elsewhere. Not enjoying the free market?

as far as rain sensors go, buy rain-x, drive over 35 and rain goes away by beading up the windshield. problem solved. I turn my wipers on in the city if constant stop and go and I can't get going fast enough, but on the freeways I don't even turn on my wipers as the rain just beads off for anything over 35.......at 60 it's like its not even raining.

I recently installed a Raintracker (www.raintracker) automatic wiper control system. It works GREAT! Just as good as the OEM system on my Lexus. Highly recommended. It even modulates per the amount of rain drops the sensor acknowledges. The sensor is installed in the same place where OEM unit of the limited trim is. I am in the process of figuring out how to add automatic light control feature using OEM parts though.
