Two valve stems on a single rim?

This may be a stupid question, but I'll fire it out anyways. :eek::

I picked up a set of the 20" Enkei rims today and while inspecting them I couldn't help but notice TWO holes for valve stems in each rim. Out of curiosity, I went and looked at another Tacoma that had these rims installed and sure enough, it had a valve stem on the outer part of the rim, and a second on the inside.

So I have to ask...why two valves on a single rim/tire? :confused:

It has something to do with the tire pressure sensors. There are two different angled sensors, 20 and 40 degree stems. I can't remember which is the right one for the original Deep Six, but I do know it's the same one that works in the standard steel wheel. The new release Enkei Deep Six have TWO valve stem holes so either angled sensor will work. You simply end up with two valve stems; the sensors in one and a rubber or metal stem in the other.

It still seems weird to me.

PB...is there anything specific I should tell the tire shop in regard to the pair of valve stems when they mount the new tires on there? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 05s dont have the pressure monitoring system do they? (mine is an 05) If that is the case, does it matter?

Maybe I'm overcomplicating the whole thing...just making sure I don't screw something up!

I still like the explanation but in this case it is not it. Also there are several type of TPMS. The most common one are the valve stem style. But manufacture are realizing that a small percentage of the consumer will want to change out their OE rims in the near future. So slowly but surely they are switching over to the band clamp style which wraps around the rim on the inside. So if you ever get a blow out or decided to change out to aftermarket wheels you are not locked in or have to buy new sensors.
