I am going to use this thread and eventually the first 2 or 3 posts to put down as much information as I can about installing aftermarket radios. I will eventually be doing a complete, with pictures, how to for a Double Din replacement with back up camera. I will be attempting to keep all functions as they are (blue screen still showing heat/ac info), and hopefully without having to run my stock headunit to the trunk. If i am wrong on anything or missing anything anyone, PLEASE feel free to correct me. I am not new to car modifications or audio as i used to compete in SPL in my teens. But i am new to having to work so hard to put in an aftermarket radio :surprise:

My parts list thus far:

Metra TYTO- 01
Metra 70-8215
Metra 95-8215S (double din kit)
ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Interface
Pioneer AVH-X5700BHS Double Din

I will be trying to post a set up for as many variations as i can find. If any of you have hands on experience and are able to supply part numbers, set up, prices, what you used for the blue screen, your stock set up, car year etc please post here or PM to me.

Lastly this will not be an over night thing, but for the last month I have been researching putting a replacement unit into my 2007 and so many different set ups and threads that are 8+ pages long i am going to attempt to get it all in to these 3 or so posts i put up first.

Well it took me quite a bit longer than i thought to get here but i was able to get it in and everything is working except for the blue screen. I am waiting on a few new ohm load resistors to see if i can get it to work without having to run wires to the trunk. I am in the process of getting everything I have learned/ everything I did together to add more information to the already vast amount of info on the forum.

Quick question, using the Metra 70-8215 and the ASWC-1, do the steering wheel HVAC controls still work too?

Or just the HVAC controls on the dash around the radio?

Thinking about putting something like a Pioneer AVH-X5800BS or AVH-X4800 in my 2009 Avalon XL and have been reading the various threads on here to get up to speed.

Thanks!

All steering wheel controls continue to work including HVAC, however after i ran my radio to the trunk my volume controls have stopped working, i spliced in the steering wheel adapter but no dice there. Will have to take a look at it and figure it out in the future.

I can send you 2 each 110Ω, 120Ω, 130Ω, and any others you might like to experiment with. Use the Private Message system on the site to leave a mailing address.

With the receiver loose in the trunk, it should be easy to access the Multiplex Bus pins on the connector and measure the internal resistance with an ohmmeter.

Locate connector E15 on the receiver (the shape, number of pins, and wire colors in the drawing below should help);
Unplug all connectors from the receiver;
Probe pins 9 and 10 on the receiver and measure the resistance (probe polarity should not matter, but try both ways);
Probe pins 9 with respect to pin 6 (ground), and pin 10 with respect to pin 6.

The reason for the final step is I am not sure if the Bus terminating resistor should be connected between 9 and 10, or if each line should be terminated to ground (in which case you will need 2 resistors)

RE: steering wheel controls with factory radio in the trunk.

Check if the other audio steering switch functions work as expected. Simultaneously connecting two devices to the factory steering wheel switches changes the termination resistance, interfering with the switch position decoder. The trunk adapter cable should break the wires to pins 7 and 8 of connector E15 on the factory receiver.
