This probably ranks up there with Bed Lights. Everyone wants one, no one has one.

 

My Dodge Durango has one under the hood that comes on only when the hood is up. My 94 Chevy also had one. I think I'm going to go down to the Chevy or Dodge parts store and see if they sell these lights -- a couple of rivits and it's mounted for life. It can't be more than a $25 purchase. The Dodge version has a little ball bearing that rolls up and down, making the connection depending on the position of the hood. There is only one wire to run to the hot side. If I can do it, I'll let everyone know.

 

My Grand Cherokee has one also, maybe similar to the Durango. Probably could junkyard one of these pretty cheap...

I used to have one eons ago, came off a 1960's vintage pontiac. 20' of cable rolled up inside, mercury switch, could pull it out and look in the trunk. Don't know how I let it get away.

The photo in the second link doesn't look right, but the top one may work well.

Here's a photo of the light I put under the hood. It is like the one you were talking about. It operates by a mercury switch and the light will pull out of the reel about 20 foot and it has a magnetic base that will stick to any metal part of the truck. I got it on ebay and if I remember right it came off a jeep cherokee.

Hood light??? Aren't those domestic options! Seriously, I had a bed light and never used it in the four years I had the option. I did use the hood light but it wasn't a Toyota!
