Attempting to remove the alternator's infamous "3rd" bolt/bracket, I was expecting a 12 mm nut. However, what appeared to be 12 mm hex head nut quickly stripped (got rounded) and there was no traction on 6-point socket. Close up videos of the area shows stripping but instead of screw threads on the spindle, there is what appears to be a hexagonal Allen-key-type shape but with "concave" sides to the hexagonal cross section, similar to torx (see photos). What kind of fastener is this and how do I remove?
When removing the serpentine belt I noticed a vacant connector (no obvious nearby cables or wiring harness that belong to it) with a single central electrode just above the oil filter housing. What is the purpose of this connector? I have never removed any wiring from the vehicle and there were no CELs.
Thanks!
