CarPlay wireless is perfect, my biggest complaint, Android Auto needs to be teathered. The unit has 3 USB any will work for AA, I have two 128GB usb drives, one full of music, the other with movies, which play on the head t unit too. Purchased it almost a year ago, no regrets.

Did you install yourself? How did you remove the ac vents below?

 

I bought the Dasani unit. I had to move the chassis down from the screen. There were small screws that allowed adjustments

FYI the Dasani unit is fantastic IMO. I’ve been using it almost a year the company provided me with android 10 update this past summer

Thanks that is exactly what I had to do. Mine came with a cambus so my steering will controls still work but the voice activated one seem to be a mute button. Tried to program the button but does not give register when I push the button to remap. Also, my back up camera not working looking to purchasing one to wire to the radio.

 

In Australia, early hatchback Corolla (2018) didn't come with apple carplay & android but customers can have it upgraded at Toyota dealer for $199 AUD. I don't like un-branded aftermarket Chinese head units, they are not reliable and not well backed up by the sellers if you have problems later on. I like the Toyota head unit as it still have knob volume control

 

I hate to be a bother but is this something we can get on a USB or is this a dealership thing. It is so strange that our cars have different options depending where we are.

 

I like mine. The plug you show in your photo is for the CanBus controller. The backup camera works with the CanBus but steering wheel controls do not. It was simple to wire them to the "Key1" "Key2" wires. I also upgraded to ROM Hal9k with greatly enhanced the performance.

 

Has anyone else tried this unit? Would Toyota Connect still work without the factory radio?

 

I think that US corollas all have touch screen head units since the backup camera is mandatory. Non touch head units are for us poor folks over southern Europe.

 

Did you solve all the problems regarding the head unit? Is there any chance that you upload closeup photos of the harnesses?

I'm hoping to get the backup camera issue fixed first, then I'll be making a review video that goes over everything from my impressions, to how to fix things like the SWC and backup camera. Thanks for your patience!

 

How did you get Steering wheel controls working?

 

Basically just had to cut and crimp 2 pairs of wires on their harness to connect them to the right location. I'll get some pictures on exactly which ones they are next time i'm in there to figure out the backup camera.

 

UPDATE: I was able to get the steering wheel controls working. Now all I have to do is get the backup camera working and I'll be happy. Wireless carplay is a god send.

That is the risk we take anytime we buy from a source country like China. Takes the slow boat and difficult to resolve issues. Hit or miss on quality.

Manufacturer is requiring i send it back for the refund and paypal is supporting them in that. I've got no problem senidng it back if they send me a prepaid shipping label. For paypal to expect me to come out of pocket though is absurd. Oh well, lesson learned, and i'll learn a little more about wiring in the process. ?

 

Yep, I tried. They would only refund my money if i paid $80 out of pocket to ship the head unit back to china. I'm not losing any more money on this deal, so I'm SOL. oh well.

 

I recently had filed a dispute with pp. It worked in my favor. Had buyer protection. They will communicate on your behalf and could take around a week or so.

I assume you have buyer protection on this transaction?

Do a charge back on your card. At least get the money back, and that usually makes them more responsive.

 

I was an idiot and paid through paypal so i have to go through paypal's dispute process. won't make that mistake again.

Nope and nope. Fuck that company.

I'm eventually gonna get around to fixing the wiring myself, but not at the top of my priority list though.

 

I would love to see what the dash looks like with the OEM head unit removed and what the dash and hole look like. Any pics of that?

 

I know one thing for sure, most Corolla Sport (Hatchback) in Asia are sold with aftermarket headunit. When you buy the car new, there is just a hole there with exposed wiring and it's up to the dealer to sell and install one.

FWIW My local dealer said it would be a free update for the stock head unit to Android auto after the 2020 hatch releases. But maybe that's not the only reason to switch head units.

 

If they provide you with the right harness, I assume it will work with rear cam or someone suggested it can be converted to a RCA video signal.

I think filing a dispute may require you to send the unit back which is another $40-$50... maybe eventually they will work it out with you.

 

Yeah, the training doesn't work because the harness that carries the SWC control wires doesn't have anywhere to connect on the harness they sent. I'm going to have to tap them manually if i want.

Dispute is going well, looks like I'm getting a full refund and getting to keep the head unit since they won't provide a prepaid shipping label and PayPal won't hold me responsible for return shipping costs as a result of a falsely advertised product. Should have final word in the next day or so.

The Sony was my first mental comparison when I saw this. The single din on this car was kind a shocker. But it opens it up this Sony.

 

I like the look of it, it just looks like a PITA. All I want is Android Auto. Thanks for the heads up.

 

In my line or work I work all the time with our Eastern brothers. I have learnt that due to the time difference it is best to contact them via skype. this way you can have a good chat with them and provide proof of the problem in a few minutes that would require days with emails going back and forth.
