Upgrading everything! Gen 4 camry

Hi guys,
I have a 1998 Camry XLE 4 cyc.
Its a cool little car but I want to make it badass.
I ve come up with a a laundry list of things to do to it, but am having troubles getting started finding the right parts and wondering how to install them. Here is a list of stuff I want to do to it, and how to I was going to go about it. If anything looks sketchy or overlly compilicated (i.e. you know an easier way) let me know.

Headlights to HID
Going to get a pair of BI-xenon projectors and retrofit the H4 headlamp with the new projectors and philips 4100k lights and ballast. (alot of work on that, it will look coooool) Has any one seen camry headlamps already retrofitted for projectors? (check out www.hidforum.com for cool stuff)

Rear wheel drum to Discs brake upgrade
I need a new set of rotors and calipers, and perphaps a proportioning valve. I saw pro motors is selling cross drilled rotors. Does any one know of a Kit for it for the upgrade? (I know rear discs were an option on the 1998 XLE)

Suspension upgrade and lowering
Tokico struts/shocks and eibach lowering springs (1 to 2 inches)
The camry already rides pretty low, but it doesnt have the look yet. Is saw some cross bars mentioned (not sure of the tech term, but they connect the shock/spring locations across the motor), do those actually help at all?

Turbocharger
This one is the fun one, when I got the car I looked over the engine and it seems that adding a turbo to it would be reallly easy, the engine comparment is rather large (it fits the 5SFE and 6cyc equivalent) so I have enough space to add a turbo and intercooler. I saw some guys in washington are selling a 5sfe kit but they want $2500 for it not installed and there is no intercooler. I was looking at using a air to water intercooler because of logistics of air travel in the motor ( the turbo wouldbe in the prime place for the intercooler )
The turbo would of course cause the EFI system to be upgraded and the same with the ECU. Its starts getting expensive there, but I should be able to get over 200+hp at least from the 4 cyc.
maybe adding nitrous later.

If anyone can point me to a bodykit that is not "Linda Tripp" ugly I would appreciate it.

That should be enough to get at least one reply.

wow man.... sounds like a great list of mods, and it even sounds like you know quite abit about what you want! Those are like the exact same things im thinking right now especially the drum to disc. I can't wait to see some progress you make on all that stuff. I think you could also get some discs from an ES300, not for sure though. anyways good luck!

P.S. this is IMO the best kit for a gen. 4 (JT EVO)

Adam -

I know very little about HIDs, although several on this board have gone that route. Search for "HID" and you should be able to find a bunch of very information...

Kocho has done a great write up of a rear drum to disk conversion, a search should turn that up, as well...

Sounds like you're on the right path with the suspension, if you're serious about handling, you'll probably want to consider at least an upgraded rear sway bar, and probably a front as well. TRD makes an upgraded rear sway bar, and Whiteline (based in AU) makes upgraded F&R bars for the Gen4. I have an OBX strut tower bar, but I'm not convinced it's doing that much. IMHO, the other things you're looking at will give you more bang for the buck.

In terms of turbo, my personal opinion is to check out the Rippmods S/C. Very impressive dyno #s, and the black box they have takes care of the tuning. Tuning a turbo is a lot of work, and you really won't have much in terms of support from Burien. It's a very rough kit, the Rippmods S/C is a finished product that seems to be well-supported...

Just my $0.02...

Thanks for the input,
Looking at the horsepower differnce for the Rippmods s/c on an Auto and Manual transmission makes me want to switch from my auto to a manual just for the power.

I looked over the drum to disc conversion I found on the net and it seems like a no brainer, so I will probably do that, the shocks, springs all at the same time.
My guess is thats gonna cost $1000 bucks for everything(brakes, shocks, springs) not including all the time its gonna take.

Is there any problems with swithing to the TRD sway bars after the shocks and springs have been upgraded?

Adam it wont cost you a $1000 bucks to do the conversion if you do it yourself and buy the parts from the Junkyard. It'll probably not even going to cost you half that ...

Drum to disk conversion - still going strong after almost another 10K on the car...

After I braved it, I think a couple of other folks did it as well-with good results. Each of us were able to get the parts for under $300 USD from a junk yard. Self installed.

The springs and struts are unrelated to the brakes and I'd say $250 for springs and $350 for Tokico struts is a decent price. So your $1000 total for conversion, springs, struts is not far off, provided you do not pay labor (labor would add at least 50% on top)

Well when U hear the word "retrofit " means that the projector will be mounted from the back of the existing housing using the stock headlight !!!! We don't have much choice after all !!!!;)
