Want to add Oil Pressure & Temperature Gauges

I'm getting ready for an oil change and I am planning to add both an Oil Pressure Gauge and an Oil Temperature Gauge.

What do I need to know on how and where to install the sensor/sender units?

&

Where should I pick these up?

I prefer the AutoMeter brand.
There are 2 types of oil pressure gauges.
1. Mechanical , which sends oil directly to the gauge in the passenger compartment.
2. The electrical sensor type that which oil is sent to and
electrical sensor, then a signal is sent to the gauge. The sensor should not be mounted to the engine, but to a fire wall to avoid excessive engine vibration.

For oil temp gauge, an adapter mounted under the oil filter is the easiest way to measure the temperature. Oil is sent directly to an electrical sensor that sends a signal to the gauge.

Auto parts stores carry these and can be obtained from several performance shops on Ebay and Amazon.

For the oil pressure gauge - Do not use a t-tap at the block. DON'T.

You have 2 options.

1) You can get rid of the stock switch style (you will have a light on your dash, or you can remove it, or jumper the stock wire...) and use an aftermarket sending unit with adapter (as long as it isn't too long/heavy) and just go that direction. (this is the far cheaper option)

2) If you want to retain the stock pressure switch (it is not integrated with the ECU, it doesn't care) then you will need to do the following if you want to ensure nothing breaks off and you lose all of your oil (yes, it can and will happen).

Get a stainless line built that runs from the block to where you want/wish to mount your sensors (as MR2Jedi indicated), adapt the block oil pressure port to the stainless line - then at the other end of the stainless end, put your T-Tap and secure it to something solid that doesn't move.

the 4afe holds the pressure sending unit parallel to the ground - adding a t-tap with even the stock switch and a line is too heavy, and it will break through vibration - which will put your oil pressure open - and you will lose massive oil, quickly.

After my initial research, I'm looking into getting both gauges from this website
http://prosportgauges.com/index.aspx

the gauges I like are the

only if I can use the "oil filter adapter plate" that they also sell.

How could I ascertain as to whether or not the adapter plate that they say is for MR2's, Scion Tc's and Celica's would work on my 4afe? It's marked as 3/4 UNF - 16 long shaft.

Well yeah thats obvious, lol, but mah brane don't work ovious like.

I guess I'm just confused as to what I'm even measuring for as far as their various sizes of oil filter adapters.

The filter is around 3/4; any idea what the "long shaft" implies with the oil filter adapter?

I got the ProSport gauges and sandwich adapter in the mail. Nice quality. The filter screws right on. I'm anxious to get them installed.

I still think I'm going to relocate the pressure sensor away from the block. Do I need to use stainless braided hose or can I just use rubber hose?

I ran new hoses with fittings and hose clamps when I installed my transmission cooler, so I'm confident I can do this too for the engine oil.
