I would be down, if I had the money for it. I don't know if I would do it right away, because doing this will put me in Street Mod. But since I am going to build my camry to an SM car, might as well. When will money be needed?

before I'd commit to this, I would want to know the spring rate, and dampening of all the suspension components. I'll be wanting to get stiff... for track use.

1. what's the time frame of this project.
2. how trust worthy are these guys ( no taking $ and running)(have u ever talked to them in person?)
3. is there deposits required if so how much. will it be refunded if the project doesn't go through?

 

well I got in contact with them through JGYcustoms which is a shop that does mainly nissans. KSport is a legit company they are relatively new to me as well which is why I'm shocked that they would even bother considering doing one for our cars. They sure are alot better than Tein with the preorders though. For Tein you need like ten orders for them to make a new application. for them to say 4 orders is pretty dope. As far as what you would want out of the application that would depend on what you tell them, obviously more features would affect cost. I didn't get too much info other than the fact that they would be willing to do it if I found 4 serious people. Right now I'm at the top of the list. I knew in the back of my mind that atobe, vwcamry dude, and possibly charlie would take it serious but I figured with all the other people out there constantly asking about suspension, that maybe more would step forward. As far as pricing, their toyota kits that are relatively close to our cars are the st185 @ $1300 and the 3rd gen camry @ $1400, for the most part that is why i figure 1100 would be the highest this could possibly come out to be but that depends on what options we want. Another thing is that those prices are directly from the company. We can probably do this through one of their distributors and save some money. Obviously more orders, the cheaper it will be but it has to be a minimum of 4 If I can't get 3 more folks then I'm going to just adapt some 3rd gen camry coilovers to fit. I'll make this tank handle better if it kills me.lol

And yes deposits would definitely be required. If I can find serious folks I'll call back and find out how much.

I would also compare this to a custom Koni/Ground Control setup in terms of price/performance. This is my current plan a few months down the road (after my WRX gets nice Bilstien coilovers...).

i also heard from the gen3 people that they had to zip tie the brake line.. cause it didn't come with the brake line bracket and there's some squeeking sounds... i did some research... don't look like they're a bad company... i only found like 1 bad review out of 10 so...but no brake line bracket is a NO NO for me i'm not zip tying nothing.

Lol.... I've had zip ties on the brakelines on my WRX for 70k+ miles, and the same on my Camry since I lowered it. That's no issue for me (though some sort of brackets on the coilovers would be nice!).

So far, it seems like the k-sport stuff is decent.

I'd imagine you can do the Koni/Ground control setup done for around $1k. $600-ish for the Koni's, $300-ish for the ground controls and some welding/cutting/etc. If setup with the right insert length and spring perch height you won't need double-adjustable height. For performance reasons, you only want to lower the car 1"-1.5" (maybe 2" max).

MRSP on the K-sport coilovers for the other Camry/Celica applications (all *very* similar) is in the $1300-1400 range. How are you expecting to come in around $900-1100?

Anyway, for the right features, I would be willing to go to $1400 for these, otherwise I will go with a custom setup.

i am willing to save up money for this, but i won't have 1,400 for about a month and a half. I will still want to know spring rates, and dampening information.

 

the more i'm thinking about it, I'm wondering if full custom suspension will be the way to go for me anyhow. the ksport look really nice. and would offer good things for both track use, and street use. but I'm going to not be using my camry for street use eventually, and do not need to worry about making it street-able. I am just doubting the k-sport coil overs ability to give me what I'm looking for.

 

It all depends on your definition of 'streetable'. 7kg front / 5kg rear springs with good matched dampers is quite stiff (compared to stock, at least!), but reasonably comfortable. At the same time, it will handle quite well (as good as new sports cars, if you have good tires).

I've ridden in a few cars with stiffer suspension in lighter cars (8kg/8kg JIC FLTA-2 in an older Impreza) and that starts to get a bit harsh.

I think that if we can get this going in the $1100-1300 range, you won't be able to build a better suspension for less... (unless somebody takes the risk and tries out the Celica coilovers to test)

mine came in about a week ago and i drive a gen 3, they come with the brake line brackets

this is true, probably won't be able to get a better suspension set up for less. Of course, in all eventuality if I need to, I guess I could even have the coilover's modified further, Heck, if I can get the camry to handle near to what a sports car will handle like, then that would be golden.

I guess if we do get this going, and it ends out being a really good setup, maybe more people will start modding gen 2s, and more aftermarket parts will come available.

^they give you 5 or 6 in case you mess up i guess, they are separate and not connected to the actual assembly, you bolt em onto the mount using the existing bolt

Well, I think you have two firm commitments (me and atobe) pending details.

Spring rates, damper type, price, etc.

I assume that they will need a test subject car too... It would take a fair amount of convincing to get me out to Arizona - though I guess it could be arranged!

I'm pretty sure this can be almost exactly the same as one of their Celica kits, so the R&D should be easy.

i'm not sure if the st185 turbo/nonturbo is different.. i only heard 90-93 fits.. i'm not sure which could be the same who knows..i'm pretty sure if the turbo is the all-trac only version then it won't work. we'd have to source elsewhere..... now who wants to try it.. and where can you buy pairs at?? :lol:
