Well today I finally bit the bullet by getting smaller tires, 265/75/16.............

They are much smaller than the 285's I had on there, but at least the fit without rubbing. I also dropped the coilovers way down to make the truck sit level. It used to sit way higher in the front. Now the truck rides like a cadillac, nice and soft. It looks decent sitting level with the smaller tires, but I would way rather have preferred to have 285's on it with the front sitting a little higher. I don't get what is different with my truck compared to every other person who has 285's, I just could not get them to come even close to clearing the frame. I had my coilovers cranked up to over 3 inches too and it still wasn't even close. I also tried a different offset wheel, that didn't work either, WTF. I will take pics when I get it back from the dealership on Monday after they do the final alignment and replace my steering wheel. The dumb f*cks really scuffed up the leather on it and I am making them replace the wheel, which after a little arm twisting I got them to do.

I talked myself out of the 20's since the tire was only .3 smaller in diameter than my original 285's. I don't feel that would have been enough clearance, hell when I pull into my driveway fast with the wheels turned a little I still get a small amount of rub. I didn't want to test my luck, especially after this is the 3rd set of tires I got from the tire shop. They could not have been more fair, hell they even broke 2 tire pressure sensors and went to the dealership to get them replaced. I didn't even have to fight with them. I highly recommend using discount tire they are great to deal with.
I ended up keeping my American Racing Mojaves, I really like them, especially with the black rings.

hey sincity, check out my truck on the cardomain site. I am running 265-70-17 on stock chrome wheels, I thought that since I drive a lot that this would be a good combination. I also leveled the front with dr's (about 1.25"). I am with you on the ride, and there is no rubbing. I put the 5100 bilstien on the rear. When I first lifted my truck the 3" route seemed the way to go but after driving it the ride was to rough so the rear aal came out and 1.25" of lift came out of the front also. Much better and still looks nice.:whatwhat:

Yeah thats cool. I will take some detailed pics hopefully on Monday so everyone can see what the hell I am talking about. It must seem like I am nutz. I mean everyone one elses shit works fine, but mine never even came close to fitting 285's even with like 3.5 inches of lift. There are even people who had 285's with 4.5 inches of backspacing, which is exactly what I had. I could not reverse of turn hard going forward without some serious rub on the frame. I don't get it. That is what make me want to get the Total Chaos control arms. I thought they may help with clearance. They made it rub even worse than the stock arms, but it drives a whole hell of a lot better now due to them. I guess I am finally going to shut up about this whole dilema, take some pics for you guys, put it behind me, and be happy with the gay little 265's I had to resort to.

well it is ugly right now because I dont have the rings on my wheels and they are scratched. The rings will cover the scratches. I am not going to put the rings on till it is aligned, because those hacks will then scratch the rings. I don't want to have to choke someone. I also need to get some new front fender flares because my old tires rubbed the paint of the ones I have. Not to mention I would like to have some that aren't cut.

That is so crazy that the 285's didn't work for. I must have really lucked out with my setup. Stock height, 285's and no rub. I do plan to level the front just so it will sit right. Hope to be able to put the mud flaps back on once I do that.

That doesn't matter, I still would like to see some pictures... ugly or not. How about it?

285/75R16s? Completely stock, no spacers or anything? What wheels and tires do you have?

Silver bolt, will you please take some detailed pics of your setup, that is crazy that you can run that large of a tire, stock. I couldn't even come close even with over 3 inches of lift. Hell I get minor rub when I am turning into my driveway fast with the wheel turned, and that is with 2 inches of lift and 265/75/16's, fuck that pisses me off.

Hey SinCity - What was the width of the rims you were trying??
When I had my '01 Taco, I put 265/75's on the stock 16x7 '5-star' wheels and had very little rubbing. I then picked up the Ivan's which are 16x8 and the rubbing got 3 times as bad. I ended up getting a 1" spacer in the front to level the stance of the truck and it also was all I needed to get rid of 90% of the rubbing.
I would guess if you were trying a rim wider than 8", then you would need at least 1" less backspacing to compensate for it. That would in turn make the wheel well rubbing worse because the wheel/tire would stick out of the well more. Not sure, just a guess.
Here's a pic of my '05 with the 265's and 3" lift. I didn't think it looked bad, just not as good as the 285's.

#1 This is about the fifteenth time you've talked about pics without producing them. Do you even actually HAVE a Tacoma???

#2 You've ignored every piece of advice people have given you about fitting those tires under your truck, and you seem to think your truck's frame is somehow different than everyone else's. :disappoin

All in all, this sounds like an ESO* problem to me.

Geez, man... shit or get off the pot!
