What would YOU do? Maintenance

My 2014 Corolla S + is about to reach 30,000 miles. Obviously my last included Toyota Care maintenence was done at 25,000 miles.

My dealer has this offer: Next 4 visits for $299.

That would include everything required to be done for my 30K, 35K, 40K, 45K mile services. That includes 2 synthetic oil changes.

Considering the cost and services required, what would YOU do in this case? DIY or Indy shop or just pay the dealer $299 and be worry free for the next 4 services?

Thank You

My dealer tried to charge me $400 for my $30k service. I told them to just do the oil change and to leave everything alone. They did that AND rotated my tires. My car is lowered and the rear have a different camber degree and messed it up and I had to take it to my specialty wheel shop to get that fixed. Next oil change will be done by myself.

This is only for 4 rotations and 2 oil changes. You can find cheaper....that's for sure, but some people feel more comfortable with the dealer doing the work. It's not a BAD deal. If you feel comfortable with your dealer's service dept. go ahead and do it.

When you get new tires most tire shops will do free rotations for life. When that happens this deal does not make as much sense. In fact, Discount Tire (in my area) will do rotations, and reset TPMS for free for anyone who comes in. They are hoping to get future business, so you could get free rotations from them possibly. Maybe do the $299 thing once and see how if works. Might be nice to get both done at once. My dealer has the same deal, but my 8 month old 2015 only has 3700 miles so I don't have to worry until my ToyotaCare runs out at 2 years. At this rate I will have about under 10,000 miles at the 2 year mark.

Just some opinions and alternatives.

Thank you for the quality response. I know it can be done "cheaper", but at $299 how much cheaper is it going to be to outweigh the convenience? Obviously convenience gets the backseat when I can get something significantly cheaper elsewhere, but at $299 I don't see how 4 visits could be THAT much cheaper?

Go to America's/Discount Tire (Not American) and for $80 you can purchase lifetime free rotation AND rebalance.

$80 + $35 + $35 for two 5qt jugs of M1 0w20 and as many rotations as you's like vs $300?

Oh ya... and for 4 rotations and 2 DIY oil changes you'll probably wait longer at the dealer for ONE service than you will total for Discount/DIY
The dealer shuttles me back to my business and picks me up when my car is done. Like I said before, $299 and for the next 4 visits all I do is drop off my car and I'm done. Not much time to DIY (I run a busy operation) so maintenance has to be done by someone else. I don't think Americas tire would shuttle me back and fourth? That's very important because I can't wait around..

Thanks for the response. I know some might say "why ask if you already made up your mind?". I guess I'm just looking to see if I overlooked anything major that would convince me NOT to use the dealer. I don't think I've found that yet..

I always do my own oil changes once I run out of the free maintenance. Discount tire takes care of my rotations when I get tires from them, I'll have to rotate them on my Corolla my own for now. At my last ToyotaCare service they told me I needed a cabin air filter, I declined it because who knows how much they will charge to replace a simple filter. Unless something major goes wrong I can't fix or if I'm in a time crunch, my cars only visit shops for tires/rotations, alignments, and inspections.

If the dealer is your only option for maintenance then use them. As you said, you need the convenience. It's not a bad price (for a dealer price) but for the actual work being done, in my opinion, it's not worth it,

I have the tools to do all the work myself and have a mechanic I trust for the major problems. My tires are rotated when I do the winter/summer tire changeover. I believe the manual shows you how to change the filters.

My suggestion would be to ask around and find a mechanic you can trust.
