Sup fellas. I just wanted to find out how good your gas mileage is. Before my turbo, I got 30mpg, now at 5psi I am getting 42mpg. (highway) Not too sure about city mileage, I'll have to check that out sometime.

I hate you so much......j/k:D
I only get 19-21mpg in the city:disappoin , and that is where I do most of my driving. Highway is probly mid-upper 20's but I really don't drive highway that much so I don't know.

when i was commuting from NE Sac to Stockton, 342 miles before a 13 gallon fill-up (26.3 mpg), all highway

Now that I just go from NE Sac to South Sac (Florin Rd), 300 before a 13 gallon fill-up (23.07), highway and surface street.

I found that it really made no difference what company's gas I used (New West, Chevron, etc) unless I went to Arco. Anybody else got the same experience???

I only get 23 - 25 mpg! why so little? what turbo do u use? The Burien toyota one?
I do use the Burien Toyota kit at 5PSI. I recorded the 42mpg from Alamogordo NM, to Taos NM on 91 octane. 300 miles on 1/2 a tank. Mind you, this was not on cruise control the whole way. There were lots of little towns, and long streches where I punched it (alot).

my 93 camry 2.2l with over 215K+ on the odometer gets an average 30 mpg 80% highway 20% local traffic. everytime i filled up 13 to 14 gallon would give me a cruise range of 400 to 450 miles

first off, the turbo shouldn't be running during normal driving, only under heavy acceleration.
Secondly, how can anything that increases the airflow, thus requiring more fuel, reserve fuel?
I asked around MR2 boards about fuel consumption before I started buying the parts to swap into my lil Tercel, the MR2 guys ALL told me to expect 30mpg, untill I hit the gas, then they ALL said when you hear it spool up the gas mileage is gone, they said expect the consumption of a V8 making the same power.

First off, if you think I'm lying, screw you! Second, a turbo "runs," as you put it, constantly. I see boost at around 2000 RPM's and am fully boosting at 2500 RPM's. Put it this way, when normally driving up a hill using cruise control, gravity is exerted on the engine forcing it to raise RPM's to continue going the same speed. With my turbo, I now see a raise in boost, or decrease in vaccuum while the engine RPM's remain the same. And what determines how much fuel is needed? RPM's!

if turbos improve gas mileage, do superchargers?
This I do not know for sure, but logic tells me no. A turbo spins idependently of the crankshaft giving you an exponential gain in power. A supercharger is ran in line with the crankshaft. The faster it spins; the faster the crank spins, giving you a linear gain in power.

42 mpg? wtf? if i ran like 80 psi in my tires I might get that! Nonetheless, nice job; that's highly respectable. Highest I ever got with my gen 2 five speed and my mildly aggressive driving style was 34 mpg... twice. Usually it's between 27-30 with a decent mix of lower speed around town driving and steady highway speeds. It's somewhat lower in winter as I always give the car time to warm up. Furthermore the gas station I normally go to usually shorts you a gallon or so in the tank, throwing the #'s off (I know the dudes who work there or I'd go elsewhere)... tried another station and I know I got a full tank last time around. I'm thinking 30 mpg next time up.

Theoretically, I believe the SC should improve gas mileage. However, in the real world...most ppl that have SC (or Turbo) aren't focused on fuel economy as their number one priority.
My gas mileage took a hit after I got my SC. It's prolly do to the fact that I mash the pedal every opportunity I get. Secondly, the SAFC spits out more fuel too. Thirdly, any cost savings from fuel efficiency is lost to the premium grade gas that has to be used :( ...but the whine and pull of the SC is well worth it ;)

Fuel economy is heavily dependant on driving style. If you speed and drive aggressivly, don't expect environmental groups to praise you for your efforts

But I can speed and drive agressivly and still get twice the mileage of a Suburban:D

I'm not having much trouble speeding and driving aggressivly with my car as is!!! :D

My tires are slowing my down. They are the $19.99 'special' econo tires and our 1989 Chevy Silverado can go FASTER that my Camry on a offranp (360-degree turn) because it has $200/each Michillines (sp?)

Anyway, new tires will make that car even better!

Don't get cheap tires to "save money." I learned that lesson on my dad's 91 Accord. He bought the Sears Guardsman tires... seemed like a good idea. I drove it before the tires, nice grip. Those Guardsman (4/$100 US) couldn't get a grip on crazy glue. When I bought my gen3, the guy before me had put on Goodyear Viva2, which are the best tires I've ever driven on, besides the Potenzas on my dad's i35.

When these tires give up the ghost, I am not going to hold back. I still want (need) all-season tires, but there are some danm good ones out there.

Again, if the TRUCK can beat my car, there is something wrong - and its the tires.

Now, to decide what tires to buy...

i don't know what my mileage is like for the city or highway conditions are, but i can tell you that i can get about 580km/tank with about 8ltr remaining in the tank.

i think i roughly get 100km/10ltrs

i don't know how to convert those figures in to miles and gallons. we aussies stopped using it a long time ago, hahahaha

Aussie Ed, your numbers sound about right.

I used to get those kinda numbers too. Here's a snap shot of my gas mileage spreadsheet

http://www.toyotanation.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=121548

I had the SC installed in Feb. Mileage took a hit from that point on and also during the winters (jan-feb) pretty good too.

I'll update the spreadsheet later and post the results.

btw-here's a past discussion baout mileage of 1MZs
